What are you currently listening to?

Their entire catalogue is excellent.

First album is perhaps a little derivative but if you like Souvlaki then I don't see any reason why you wouldn't enjoy it.

The first three EPs are really good, especially when you consider they were teenagers when they came out. Morningrise is probably the pick of them, I think, just because of the b-sides.

Third LP "Pygmalion" is a major departure from their "shoegaze" sound, its really minimal and sparse, and doesn't really sound like anything else. It's more post-rock than shoegaze. The closest reference points I can think of are Talk Talk's "Spirit of Eden", or Bark Psychosis. I've been a huge fan since they were first around, Rachel is one of my ex's best friends, and this is the LP I come back to most these days.

The "comeback" LP was really, really good, it sounded fresh and vital, and they tried out some new ideas on it which largely worked, closer "Falling Ashes" is a stunner.

I'd recommend checking out Mojave 3 and Neil's solo stuff, too. Mojave 3 was Neil, Rachel and Ian, who played drums on Pygmalion, its got a bit of an alt-country vibe, and Neil's solo stuff is a bit more folky. His "Palindrome Hunches" LP is a favourite of mine.

Yea Pygmalion is probably the one I listen to most too these days. Souvlaki is one of those albums I don't really need to listen to much anymore as I know it all in my head anyway, whereas there is no way I can always remember Pyg

I read that Neil (I think) wanted to go full electronic on the upcoming one, but the others reigned him in. So it will be interesting to see where it's gone

Pre-ordered it this morning.

Simon is really into his electronics, too, he has an ambient side project, can't remember what he calls it though. "Falling Ashes" was mostly him and Neil.

I saw a lad I know, he's a mate but we don't see much of each other but he's always been a cool kind of dude. Anyway I saw a picture of him and his missus on Instagram the other day and he had a My Bloody Valentine t-shirt on. I've got them on now.

Here's a couple for the underdog:

The states answer to the beatles:

Piss poor by comparison, I know. But they had a couple of decent tunes.

And of course I'm going to see your Metallica and raise you one Megadeth:

Dave Mustaine, the original guitarist for Metallica... Who loved to party! Sex, drugs and rock 'n roll baby!
But ol' James wasn't having any of that, so he sent him packing after their first album.

So he went and formed Megadeth... Keeping it proper thrash metal to this day, and never really selling out.

What a party pooper! I mean, if you're going be a rock star, at least try some of the naughty things, FFS!
🤣 🤣

A good comparison od the two:

Dave can't sing unfortunately. I know all the Metallica history like. He was a nob and still is lol fantastic guitar player though

Well, I will give you that... A lot of Megadeth sounds like early Metallica. With Dave trying to replicate Jame's singing style... And he does come up short. 🫤

But for me, the best voice of the whole 80's metal scene goes to Glenn Danzig:
