It’s all a bit deceiving though, in my previous job I was earning what I considered to be good money yet if I was living down south or even in London my earnings would have been meagre almost. I know how lucky I am to have been in a position to decide to take a significant pay cut and earn far less but I don’t regret that decision one bit… I’m happier, home every day and have a job that pays me enough. I couldn’t survive living down south tbh

I have a mate who earns a lot, like 90k or something.

His life is so tragic. He is in the phone all the time, 7 days a week. All the people in the local pubs hate him, we only don't hate him as we have know him for 20 years. He panics if we go somewhere without signal, which we do on purpose

His gf doesn't work and he has two kids so it stresses him a lot but god he is so boring these days

get a Portuguese wage. Probably was earning more working in bars in my 20s. Would be 30plus job back in the U.K. but would mean I’d have to physically interact with all you pallid slugs so swings and roundabouts.
I feel 30 grand wouldn’t really get you far now anyways.

Apprentices come out on £30k+ where I work these days. My new apprentice has started on £23k in her first year. £30k is nothing (sorry to anyone on it). Sadly life is getting more expensive but a lot aren’t having their wages increased to compensate.

That's a very good wage for an apprentice, is it like a school leaver one or a bit older?

A lot of businesses scale wages comparative to the area they’re based in. Same way a decent wage in England would get laughed at if you took it over into somewhere like Denmark.

I never get how fans can afford to go to all the away matches, especially in Europe. For Newcastle fans going to Paris, spend 2 nights there, that must be close to a couple of grand each.
Who has all this surplus cash?

She’s 20 but it’s an apprenticeship open fo school leavers but think they start maybe a bit under. There’s a new apprentice “academy” opening up soon up here and rumour has it they’ll be on £40k+

We have an apprentice who started last week and I manage her, but I'm scared to ask her age as I don't want to look like a creep lol

I thiiink she is 18

Beats me but then again I am absolutely shocking with money. There are always cheaper ways to do things though. I suspect some away diehards like those do those trips instead of a family holiday etc.

I'm so much happier now earning a little less in my new job. Where I drive 10 mins a day compared to 100 mins.

Working zero overtime compared to 10 hrs a week.

Not missing out on parties, meals, footy, all the good stuff.

Starting later and finishing earlier. Yeah the money is nice but much rather have a work life balance. Also helps to have a partner who earns more I guess 😅 but I am more savvy with our money 🤑
