I’m on less than 30k and live a more than comfortable life.

I manage to go out, put money in the savings and have holidays.

I think I’ll go for a promotion soon and that will be me set. I have very little motivation when it comes to work.

Our main aim is to always reduce monthly outgoing.

Things like I buy a £100 phone and then pay an £8 a month contract, every car we have had is at least 10 years old. No Sky or anything like that, very little fast fashion stuff - I buy my clothes in the sales. So you might get the odd overly expensive month but it works out ok over time

my runnings shoes and beer/wine are the only expensive things

I definitely believe in the less things you own, the less stress

You don't go in to civil service to make a huge wedge, the private sector generally pays more for the equivalent job but less in vacation (7.8 hours per paycheck for me, currently) and sick time (3.9 hrs per paycheck; stacks indefinitely but rate never increases) accrual.

All about retirement benefits mainly; a state pension that pays you bi-monthly, like a "normal" job until you're 6 ft under, never runs out. Also have a government 457 investment plan, which has its own benefits and drawbacks over a 401k. Still not gonna' divulge my income, though.

Every person I know who is rich through owning a business or worked/shagged their way to the top is always stressed out/whining about employees and can't switch off from their job at all. And money hungry to the point where they disgust me with their little throwaway comments that they think are disguising their bragging.

Not fot me that shiz.
Like someone on here has previously stated it’s more about your disposable income. I worked out how much I could afford not to be earning and still have some enjoyment in life. Between my partner and I we sit in the bracket between 40 to 45k a year, I work full time she works part time, my mortgage is my main outgoing which is around £225 a month and has about 2 years left (I’m not exactly sure), I have my van and she has her car but we are lucky they are both bought and paid for, I have a week away with my mates in the uk on a van holiday and we have a ten day holiday in September together abroad, she also goes once or twice a year more abroad with some friends and family. There’s only the 2 of us living at home now so nobody depends on us financially, it works for us. To some people that combined wage is a pittance whilst to others it’s a fortune but like I said, we worked out how much we actually need to earn to have a lifestyle we enjoy and how much I was earning yet missing out on home life. It’s about finding what’s right for you I guess.
