I know a bird in Glasgow who has 10 sons, all named Malcolm. I asked if that wasn't a bit confusing and she said no, if she wanted something done, all she had to do was shout, "Malcolm, take out the rubbish," and it was done. But, I asked, what if you had to talk to one in particular. "I just use their last name," she said.

I think names just come down to personal preference and sometimes it’s the first person you met with that name that leaves an impression on you and you have good or bad memories associated with the name. There have been studies that suggest some names can have a negative impact on your child’s life though, and effect their academic achievement and the jobs they get as people are biased, sometimes unconsciously, so I think parents should put a lot of thought into it and the funny spelt ones are a curse. I used to quite like “Jorge” for a boy, which is the Portuguese spelling of George and pronounced the same way, by my Surname is already 9 letters and no one can spell it or pronounce it, so Jorge on top of that would be hard work for the kid.

Sometimes when I see these kids with unusual names I wonder if they will change them when they grow up, like the kids born to hippys in th 70s called; Rainbow, Cloud and Waterfall became David, Sarah and John when they were 18

We named our first daughter Mackenzie, only 6 weeks ago. Reading this thread has given me a complex now though

nah that's dead cute, swerve anyone who says different haha

you could always go full scouse and just refer to her as Macca haha

and congrats mate! welcome to the club, wave goodbye to your life if you havnt already haha

Double-barrelled surnames are also very much in vogue for middle-class aspirants in particular.

Worse, I know of one poor child named Mark-Paul that has to live with additionally being straddled with the surnames of both parents. It's quite a mouthful. Don't know if they still do a roll-call in school anymore but they'll have to account for additional time for it at this rate.
