Where do we go from here?

It does when there's less revenue coming into the club as we've relied a bit on high league finishes.

Aye mate and cup runs. But we had a higher turnover getting knocked out against Leige last year early then we did the year before.

Its all about being shown on the TV domestically, if you can finish high up the league you will be on telly a bit pluc placement money, with the possibility of a cup run.

Am thinking from a transfer point of view if we keep what we have we wouldnt need to pad the squad out for extra games - meaning we could use our buget on one gem of a player in ilk of VDV or Mouthino. Not forgetting that we will have a lot of players playing right through the summer.

We're on tele a lot less this year than last.

European run does a lot, but when that goes, and Sky get to pick their games...I can see them picking us over Villa, Citeh, Spurs and the top 4 etc. Unless its a religation scrap.

Really mate, i wouldnt if we end up midtable as seems likely this season with not a lot to play for surely they will pick games that have an edge to hem either to win, qualify or get relegated.

Ok let's face it - at the minute we have to concede were in a relegation scrap. Of course we'l be fine, there are much worse teams than us in this league, we just need to start getting some wins and momentum going, which we will get.

Very frustrating time to be an Evertonian and we may have to write our league season off this year and concede that a European placed finish is out of the question. But let's look at the bigger picture......

1) We have a training ground which got voted one of the top 10 in Europe. Our squad now has some of the best facilities offered and potentially signings will also see this and it may give us an advantage in signing these players.
Also, 25 years ago you had the Robbie Fowler's, Steve McManaman's, Steve Gerrard's and Michael Owen's of this world joining the LFC academy because EFC's wasn't up to scratch. Now, if your a young player, were would you go? LFC who are signing spanish left, right and centre or EFC who are bringing through some excellent young lads and giving them a chance too (as seen against BATE).

2) As mentioned we have some excellent young players coming through our academy and Moyes is constantly building for the future. The likes of Rodwell and Coleman give me real hope that we can continue to progress in the coming years.

3) If we fail to qualify for Europe next season, which i suspect will happen, we won't have to play as many games and give what is already a squad that is being squeezed to the full and bit of a break. We can focus entirely on domestic games and get back to how we have been doing the previous two seasons.

4) In the summer we can get our whole squad back together and get them all having a full pre-season together. Your Billy's, Heintinga's, Distin's, not to mention the Arteta's and Jag's will be able to hit the ground running ready for a new season.

5) Don't care what anyone says, we have the best manager we have had and the best squad we have had for 25 years. We haven't turned into a bad team overnight, we will be back.

6) We are still in Europe and if we get through against Sporting, we have every chance to go all the way and also if we get a good draw in the Cup we may even get a bit of momentum in that and get back to Wembley.

Yes, we may have to forget this season and just do the best we can with it, but i honestly believe that we have so many more reasons to be excited for the future. Short term is annoying, but long term, i am convinced we will carry on progressing.

I applaud you fellow poster, for a post full of optimism in a framework of realism.

Love that post - i feel the same, and as someone said earlier if we were playing bad i'd be worried but we're playing ok. I might not boo John Cena next time i go and see WWE!

So, we are 17 games in and for our standards, with an awful points total of 18.

Putting those 17 games behind us thus far, all the injuries, the decisions, the ifs and buts... what would you be happy with from this season?

Would you favour an excellent 2nd half in the league over an exit to Sporting in Europe? Or would you be happy just to get away from the relegation zone, get a mid-table finish, and have some fun in Europe and hopefully have an extended run there?

Of course, suddenly rising up the league won't be a given. What I don't get is this thing about playing good football - I want us to play in a better style, and today for example, we played some good stuff and it was no co-incidence that that was when we were at our most dominant. However, the Everton of the past 2 or 3 seasons would have nicked games like this today with a better finish - for example, Yakubu being a bit sharper to latch onto Saha's ball. We were robbed in terms of 2 awful decisions, but that little edge, be it a winning mentality or whatever, isn't there.

The positive side is however that there are signs that we are getting back not to our best, but to a better level. I just pray we can get 3/4 points from the next 2. If we don't, then I really will start getting worried.

I'd just bone Cahill. Done nothing for us that guy.

Your 14-year-old argument style makes it difficult for me to get my point through to you.

Do you accept he's declining and isn't having much of an impact this season, and merits a few games on the bench to perk him up?
