Where do we go from here?

Your 14-year-old argument style makes it difficult for me to get my point through to you.

Do you accept he's declining and isn't having much of an impact this season, and merits a few games on the bench to perk him up?

Declining? He's not playing as he usually does, but what do you do suggest mate? Giving a seventeen year old wetback a bit of a run in the side to perk him up?

If you're referring to Rodwell, this was clearly in the "who I'd ideally play" thread, so you're taking the argument entirely out of context.

Also, you seem to be getting the impression I'm saying "get rid". My opinion is not based on fact nor is it substantiated: it's a personal prediction that he will continue to offer relatively little to the team, compared to what he has done. 2 goals and not a lot else is very poor for Tim.

The two goals have to be put into context though mate, he's hardly played in his usual position this season.

He is looking poor admittedly when he's just moved over to his favoured position.

So you are saying we all get older, and should be 'squeezed' out of the team slowly, golden handshakes, wrist watches, pats on backs, that kind of thing.

I'm not blaming our struggles on Cahill, nor am I blaming them on one single player. What I am saying is a couple of games out would test what he's about, because he has failed to contribute much this year - yes, some of it has been in his unfavoured position but it's hardly a huge migration - I'd expect a player who ideally plays off a striker to be effective in central midfield to a degree.

He goes missing in a 4-4-2 far too often.

He should be dropped to the bench for a couple of games and if his contribution doesn't improve, he should be used from the bench more regularly. I think I've made that clear already.

Not because he's getting old. Because he's not playing anywhere as well as he was.

Hearing you loud and clear.

Dead weight, going bald, putting on the pounds, retirement age for Timmy.

This is Cahill though mate, he did an admirable job covering deeper in midfield at the tail end of last year but he's not really suited in a 4-4-2.

I would expect that to be prohibitive to his goal tally due to his positioning.

I am using his 2 goals to actually defend him mate - I appreciate the fact he has not his ideal way this year. What I am saying though is for someone who can only seemingly play one position competently (AMC off the striker) and he is neither not performing, or not getting a chance in that particular position, a couple of games break may do him good.

I would never say 'get rid' at this stage, as he clearly would not deserve it. But it can't just be blamed on where he is playing: Tim has not played well this year and he'll be the first to know it.

Lets give him that rest like you suggested and see. How would you alter the midfield on current personnel to accommodate his rest?
