You sign players the quality of James and Allan and hire a manager like Ancelotti and we better be challenging top 6, minimum. there are 6 /7 other good/great teams here but we aren't messing about with these signings.

We'll do better than last season (surely) but I think you're being a bit over optimistic expecting us to challenge the top 6 right away. People must have short memories and have forgotten just how badly we were beaten by a relegated Bournemouth at Goodison on the last day of the season - I know I wish I could forget

I haven't forgotten but we have just massively upgraded the middle of the park, I don't think we are that far off. If I can't be optimistic under the current circumstances I'll just pack it in as pointless

A mid table standard keeper from the worst in the league. Either through improved form or replacement
He isn't the worst in the league, but he did make a lot of mistakes last season though. His head wasn't right since the restart, but he did what he needed to do in the last 2 Internationals, which is a marked improvement.

I don't disagree that he needs replacing. My argument is that, if he get's his head straight, he is nowhere near as bad as people make out. When we replace him it needs to be with a better model, and as Chelsea have found there aren't too many good keepers about at the moment.

Let's hope he get's his head straight, that he has a decent season, both with us and England, and we are able to get a good price for him next summer if his stock is still high.

His head hasnt been right for two years mate. For context....

1) Saving shots - JP is the worst at this in the league
2) Not making errors - JP is the second worst at this in the league
3) Commanding your box - JP is a flapper - yes his confidence might come back, but at the moment he couldnt catch a cold
4) Distribution - Average at best these days
5) Calm organisation from the back - JP really falls down here, the back 4 are bereft of confidence as a result of his poor command of his area
6) Mental strength - he follows errors with another one far too often - the best make errors but forget about it
7) A Leader - JP is a joker, little professionalism, poor behavior off field and stupid comments in the press.

Let's keep this for the Pickford thread, but in terms of this season, if he reverses two years form great, but I dont see it happening. By next summer he wont be starting for Us or England

....many outside of Everton will be understandably underwhelmed by these signings, James and Doucoure did not set the world alight last season.

Whilst it’s great to see high-profile new faces, we have to do our talking on the pitch and we’ve got to improve lots to be at the business end of this league.

Oh, this old game where I could name an 80 year old lady in a wheelchair and you would still claim she is better than Pickford. Yeah, no point really.

Good answer that

Or, I would look at the stats showing who saves the ball the least, makes the most errors and see Pickford at the top of the pile

Name one worse, who is expected to start for a PL team?
OK

Don't think West Brom or Villa have a first choice keeper yet so there's 2 for a start.

Then there's Newcastle, Southampton, Palace, West Ham and Brighton. I'm sure if we brought any of their first team keepers in to replace Pickford there would be uproar on here, despite the fact everyone hates him. So that's seven.

Chelsea Haven't got a replacement yet and even you said he was worst in the league, so that's eight.

People aren't sure about the French lad Fulham have loaned and Sheffield Utd have just paid £20m for a 22 year old, who I actually quite like and wouldn't have minded buying, but some would say they're still taking a risk with such a young keeper..

Pickford is nowhere near worst in the league mate but he's nowhere near top either. We need better when we can afford it.

Disagree with a lot of that, but I do agree that he needs replacing.

Who do we bring in?

Would you want any of the keepers I mentioned in my previous post?
