….one not on the list is a bloke called Robinson who missed the Hanson hand ball in the League Cup Final at Wembley. They beat us in the replay at Maine Road.

Two weeks after Wembley Robinson refereed a game I played in London. Needless to say, I mentioned it to him lots and he wasn’t happy. In the end he said he couldn’t give what he couldn’t see but i’m happy I did my bit for our cause.

Funny how they never seem to see it our way isn't it? I mean obviously we're blinkered but I can't recall too many things going our way and, in the Derby, even when Suarez "scored" and wasn't offside it wasn't hard to forget that the ref missed Coates using a Blue (Jagielka?) as a step ladder to head it to the cheating little swine.

On the other side of the coin - other than the egregious (penalties, disallowed goals, curious non-penalties etc etc) we had the flying dismount by Kuyt. I mean how could you not bring out a red card for that? Gerrard on Naysmith... etc etc.

What was the name of the foreign ref who absolutely loved himself ? Had blond hair, a perma-tan, & wore a silver chain. When he gave out a card he'd run up to the player, stick out his chest, & dramatically thrust the card in the player's face. A true drama-queen & narcissist if there ever was one. He packed it in when Chelsea fans started giving him stick on social media.

As one who is old enough to have been at Maine Road watching that semi-final, it has to be Clive Thomas.

Best ref ever for me in our top flight was Gordon Hill.

Roger Kirkpatrick was the funniest, seeing his little legs go into overdrive trying to keep up with the game!

Thomas was before my time, and Clattenburg's performance in that derby was beyond any innocent explanation but what Poll did in that arse-goal incident should have at the very least seen him never referee a game of professional football ever again, and have his affairs thoroughly investigated by the cops to ensure he wasn't paid off.

That he faced no punishment for it - even though it was blatantly obvious he had cheated, lied and the evidence showing that was available immediately - was a disgrace.

He also denied us a stone wall penalty in the 86 Fa cup final when graeme sharp was prevented from getting on the end of a cross after being rugby tackled by mark lawrenson. One of the worst decisions I've seen in a cup final.
