Who should replace Frank Lampard?

100% agree. It either needs to be the manager or the DOF. We've had this weird halfway house where there is complete uncertainty about the role of the recruitment at the club for years and it needs to stop..

For me, the DOF, if you have the role, sets transfer strategy, recruits players and directs footballing matters - they might consult with the manager but ultimately the DOF is accountable.

If they aren't doing that you may as well leave it to the manager.
For me we had a successful model: Moyes checked out players to the nth degree. The club secretary/CEO/chairman did the transfer details. And Martinez was his own man too, with less consistent results than Moyes but superior to his successors.

If it was good enough for their predeccessors and for them (and it was good enough for SAF) it's good enough for us again.

I am not a Burnley expert but can't recall Burnley players rebelled. I thought after so many years the chemistry was gone & they were not scoring enough goals. Short term i'd have him. Long term i am not sure he has any other type of football in his locker than 4-4-2 / hard working / hitting the big strikers.
I think they did IIRC. 1.40 here "players broadly supportive" of his sacking.

Problem is, IMO, that a lot of modern managers don't do such detailed checks any more, that's why clubs have recruitment departments and scouts

I think either can be successful, it's a case of having one person do it and the accountability.

My thing with Dyche is two-fold:

1/ Burnley players rebelled against him.

2/ If he saves us we get him for a few years and the football will be dreadful.

Obviously point 1/ is the biggest consideration right now, because if he's an arsehole...and it appears he is...that lot will down tools.
They'll have to pick the tools up in the first place and you'll need an excavation team to unhearth the rusty half fossilised tools from finch farm from the Martinez era.

Maybe.

Our experience here suggests that the DoF is pretty clueless given the wastage.
Think it's mainly down to our scouting network which to be honest is non existent.

This also is on the head of the DOF.
I think the DOF is needed (maybe not the 1st team) but he needs to sort his staff better.
He should be finding these up and coming kids like other teams do.

When he turned to Wolves players you knew something's not quite right. Coady ok. But Vinagre?

The thing with Nuno is that he apparently interviewed well two years ago and all but had it. That surely has to work for us if he's of a mind he wants to take up the challenge (if offered).

It's as if he has no scouts at all and is going off his own knowledge/mates opinions on players.
There's a world of players out there and it's all about contacts.

I mentioned before about the efficiency of Wolves' situation with managers and players.

Knowledge is power. We obvioulsy have a DoF who's a bit parochial.
