"Chaotic is one way of describing it. It's been a bit of a tricky time at Everton to say the least, but they appear to be drawing a conclusion on the search. Farhad Moshiri is flying into the UK to oversee the finalisation of this process.

"There is the latest round of interviews today. We know that Frank Lampard is still in the frame as well as Vitor Periera of Sky Sports News fame is in the frame and Duncan Ferguson is an option too.

"It's a huge decision for Moshiri to make. I'm sure he's got a lot going around in his head. Pereira has been in the frame at least twice before. He's been offered it in the past only for Everton to decide to go for Carlo Ancelotti before.

"Lampard did well at Chelsea, which a lot of people seem to forget, and at Derby. If Everton were to give him this opportunity, I'd be fascinated to see how he would get on. My information is they want to make an appointment before the window closes, so the manager can have some level of influence on last-minute recruitment.

"I think in this final round of interviews, they are going to mention targets they've been looking at and see whether the candidates are keen to bring them into the club and how they might work in the team so that if an appointment is made they can very quickly do some work before the deadline.

"It's leaving it late. It's flying on the seat of their pants at Everton, but they're trying to move in the right direction. They have a strategic review ongoing and a new stadium on the way in 2024. Hopefully for their fans, they can start to pull themselves in the right direction and away from relegation threat."

With all that context, it sounds slightest less bonkers and more plausible

It's still completely disorganised and a mess. But that's the owner and board's fault, not any journalist who happens to report on it.

precisely.

Lampard will almost certainly have told the club who he wanted to sign btw. I'd be willing to bet that that information was passed along to Kia (he may have been in the meetings anyway, he almost certainly will be today) and that's suddenly why they want another round of interviews.

"Well you want this player, but I want to give you this player."

Thanks, appreciate that.

"They are going to mention targets they've been looking at and see whether the candidates are keen to bring them into the club and how they might work in the team."

If this were any other club, that would read as not that nuts.

The club machinery has been working on potential names, potential deals, and they want to see what these guys think. Deals take time, so why not look at ones that have groundwork in place considering the deadline is so close?

As long as they can say "no," if they think it's a bad move, then I think we're good.

However, it being Mad Eye Moshiri calling the shots, who knows?
The issue is mate, there is no 'club machinery'

There is no recruitment or scouting department in place, is there? Like literally nothing.

So, who has been looking at the targets?

I think we all know the answer to that...

I didn't say it was good machinery doing a good job! It's Moshiri and friends!

That's why I said "if this were any other club."

Like I say, the important thing is they can say "no."

If they can't, we're in bother.

Thanks, appreciate that.

Biggest issue is thst the entire list will have been written by Joorb, whose effectively Vitor's agent so he will be fully aware of the questions prior to interview about those players.

Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if come next week Conte walks away from Spurs. Seems now it looks like Diaz is going to the [Poor language removed] and Traore going to Barca that they are missing all of their targets because Levy won’t pay over what he believes is the right price.

Would be so Everton if we appoint Lampard and a few days later Conte is available (not that I would be sure at all that he would come)

If Vitor gets the job today, we've got bigger problems than him knowing about a list of players in advance.

This is a very foggy situation. I think we just need to wait.

Honest question: are we expecting to be in new ground for 2024 as mentioned here?

Im more alluding to the entire process has been from day one stacked in Vitor's favour, the only thing stopping him from already being appointed was the amount of protest and visibility of it, followed by him doing the single stupidest thing he could ever have done with the Sky interview, yet even that which in literally ever other case would have seen him instantly put out of all consideration, he's still very very much in the running.

As I say, let's wait and see. I don't think we have enough credible info to judge what's happening today.

Megamind here...

I mean there's 2 candidates and Dunc being interviewed today and one of those candidates went on SSN to confirm he'd had multiple interviews but the genius that is Bally thinks that somehow none of this is happening because of a cop-out statement that bought Everton a bit of time?

You what?!

So Frank and Vitor we have all but agreed to these three players joining
what you think?

yes Frank we are aware that one of them is Barkley who you instantly sent out on loan at Chelsea. And yes, we are aware that the other two names are from fernabache and have worked twice with Vitor in the past, so what is your question?

Obviously we're mainly speculating based on media of varying degrees of reliability but it definitely feels like they (Moshiri specifically) have thrown absolutely everything behind getting Pereira in. It's concerning that despite the protests and the ridiculous interview he's still apparently in the running, but I just don't see how they can appoint him at this point.

Moshiri essentially did this same thing with Benitez and it's blown up in his face, surely even someone as seemingly stubborn as him can see the reputational and PR damage this will do to himseld and the club.

Against all my better judgement I feel optimistic that we'll have Lampard as manager and two decent signings before the window closes.
