yeah, stand by that. The amount of snap saves he makes in games hopefully backs that up. He might not command an area or might be careless at times but he can pull off some great shot stops
One completely negates the other for me. If he makes basic mistakes and can't command his area, the shot stopping ability isn't as impressive.

It's unfair to judge Robles (or any keeper) based on sporadic appearances.

That said, the one run Robles had in the team, he was excellent. Plus he's 11 years younger, so has room to improve. Howard's only going to get worse. *shudders

This really. But people fussed over a dropped ball in his first 10 minutes of game time in months or something, and called for Howard to be back... who came back a few games later and cost us a goal instantly iirc.

I just don't see it. Not often enough anyway.

He can make saves of course, we'd be in even more trouble if he couldn't, but I'm really not seeing anything to make him stand out, in a good way.

Robles isn't the most confidence inspiring keeper, I'll admit. He makes some mistakes and flaps at things himself.

However he's a young(ish) lad from Spain learning his trade, being dropped into the team desperate to impress. Howard is a 35 year old veteran with an incredible amount of consecutive Prem appearances.

When Robles had a run in the side, the mistakes in his game faded and his confidence grew. That was smashed when he was insta-dropped for Howard.

For the record I'm not sure Robles is the answer. But I think he's a good 2nd choice and crucially he has potential. There's a question waiting to be answered with him at least. Whereas Howard has shown for a long time that not only is he not working on his weaknesses, but in fact those weaknesses are only going to grow.

The never ending problem for keepers. One on one you guess right and your a hero, guess wrong a clown.Do your starfish impression and the ball hits you on the shoulder MOTD has you in line for save of the season.I always love the match report when "the keeper was sent the wrong way" from a penalty.

im not disagreeing about the need for a new keeper btw mate. I like howard, i backed him for most of his time here but yeah we need a new one, and one who isnt just a boring old keeper.

For me robles isnt showing enough to make that shirt his.

YEah he does need replacing now, over the time he has been here i have always backed him as our keeper but now we are entering the now newly named distin period where we either drop a half decent player or keep it going to fix the problem in the future and have a liability.

I just dont want to see a marshall type keeper replacing him unless we can depend on him.

After the Cardiff game at home you'd have taken Marshall in a heartbeat, but given he was playing behind a dodgy defense that gave up chance after chance the averages are he'd save quite a few if he was half decent. In the Prem it's all about the games when the keeper has 95% nothing to do.
