Why is our midfield so poor?

Because we sign bad players constantly. People hate numbers but numbers would have ruled out Gomes and Doucoure. People hate boxing ourselves into a philosophy of younger developing players but that would rule out Allan and Delph.

Do you really think a midfielder 3 of Allan, Gomes and Doucoure. Wouid get us anywhere near the top 7. Because I don’t.

Not enough goals or assists. About from Doucoure the other 2 are slow. All inconsistent on the ball, Gomes still dwells on the ball and gets bullied. Allan gets dragged out of position. And Doucoure plays the safe pass 90% of the time.

The midfield needs an overhaul. With some young fresh talented players in there. And I don’t mean longstaff

Because our manager is stupid
If you wanna play 4-4-2, two central midfielders must stay in the middle
But we give one of them freedom to roam like no. 10 and run into the box everytime even though we have two up front
If you have wingers then play on the wing not in the middle lol
 

I remember this time last season we were very pleased that we had finally got a decent midfield, and that Allan and Docoure were a massive upgrade on what we had previously.

Since it is the same players, I would have to suggest that we are not playing the correct tactics to utilise them as well as we did last season
 
Doucoure is a top midfielder in the premier league. Allen has good instincts but has slower aging legs. The reality though is I dont believe in any tactics without 3 midfielders. 2 v 3 just means you are way outmatched and unless you pinch in the wings can just be passed around and beaten to most balls. Its the only area of the pitch involved in just about every ball in play, having an extra player there is massive.
 

Consistently outnumbered for a start but its also a classic case of an incoherent transfer policy - neither of the starting cm’s are playmakers and don’t want to drop in alongside the cb’s to start our attacks which is fine if you have cb’s who can play out from the back but quite simply we don’t- godfrey looks terrified if he’s ever passed the ball. Against hull michael keane was expected to be hitting 30 yd crossfield passes to get us going.

Means we really struggle to build up play and that our attacking moves generally come from opposition mistakes causing them to be out of position.
 
They all have either no pace (Allan) or no personality ( Gomes). Doucoure can occasionally dominate a game if he's firing on all cylinders. Defensively the lack of pace and tracking ops players is v damaging.

I also think we've been very sluggish passing out from the back from a while ( keane, mina v slow, godfrey holgate can't really pass) which stops our momentum before we even get to midfield.

I do like Allan but I'm not unsure he's athletically up to it in a 2.

If Doucoure was one of the best in the league he would be playing for one of them.
 
All of them are quiet similar in their traits, with doucs and Gomes both have similar pace, slower then usual pl standard, and Allan is bang avarage. None of them can dictate the play in the mf.
