Will Rooney play again for Everton?

It was hard for you to acknowledge how good the rat is and you overcame that. Rooney may of slowed down slightly but not acknowledging that Rooney isn't world class is silly.

Kissing that manc badge whilst wearing his 'once a blue, always a blue' tshirt aside for a second... He is world class or at the very least was.
Depends how you define world class really.

If he's truely a blue - and I've no reason to doubt that he is - my reckoning is this. He'll want to play for us again - but at what price? There was a spanish player a few years ago - Expessera or something like that - and he was 30, having played for his boyhood club his entire career. He announced that he would play for them, without taking a salary.

How about that, Mr Rooney? I mean - one week's pay for you is the equivalent of ten years work for the average fan - so you'll not exactly starve.

Run the Man U contract down, come here for nowt, because you can. Make a difference. Barkley and others looking at greener grass will want to stay, and I reckon we're one Rooney type player away from silverware ... how much of a difference can he make? He'd become a true legend.

But not if he waits too long.

Can't really expect him to play for free but taking something like similar to what Baines is on would be good

He'll be nearly 34 when his current deal runs out. We wouldn't really want him then. He'll be off to play for la galaxy then anyway who could probably offer about 5x what we could in wages.

No - I agree - he ought to get expenses! Even if were paid the same as the best players at the club, your average footballer is made for life in a few months.

The old argument that "it's a short career" doesn't wash with me. Footballers need to realise they're lucky as hell to be paid for playing a hobby for 10 years. AFter that's over - they could always re-train and find another career. Just like the rest of humanity.

Rooney will be a massive fat pudding by time he's 34.
Sadly I think this is going to be the case. He's often been photographed with a ciggie hanging out of his gob (usually while pis$ing up a wall outside a pub after a night on the lager). I'm no athlete meself these days like, but I can imagine it would be harder for him to maintain any kind of physical fitness - certainly up to PL standards, at that age.

Also someone pointed out his social media following etc.? That's all great, but he's at a club now that can capitalise on that. We've done nothing with Howard and the US markets, same with Cahill and Australia before that.

Saying he's captain of England like it's a big deal. lol
Only 11 players can play for their Country at one, and of those he's been singled out as the most consistent with leadership qualities.
Plus he's probably been England's best player for the last 10 years (not that it's got us anywhere), even when he's been played out of position he's ended up carrying us. Would you argue that other 'World Class' players like Gerrard/Lampard/Terry have had a bigger effect?

I think you could make a case for each of Gerrard, Lampard and Terry being one of the best players in the world in their position at some point during their career. I'm not sure that Rooney has ever been in the top few strikers in the world.

He's been a very good player over a long period of time though.

No. Everton are not a retirement home. He won't leave Man Utd till he is 33/34. By that time we don't need him.

jags said in an interview Rooney wouldn't come back if he didn't think he could contribute, still think its unlikely though
