people mention the romance of finishing his career at Everton forget one thing.

There is the romance of winning everything with your boyhood club and then there is being a blue but spending your career somewhere else and being successful.

There is no need for him to return to us, he remains a blue and that is all that matters. remember when the guy retires he will be a Manchester United legend, not an Everton one. That will count for a lot more to his decision making

They're obscene amounts, I agree. But what are you gonna do about it? I don't think he's been overpaid at all, taking into account what other players get paid. Glen Johnson gets paid £100k per week, ffs.

When his last contract was ending and there was a chance he was going to run it down and come back on a free whilst taking a pay cut I would have welcomed him with open arms.

Now though if he were ever to come back it would be a move borne out of sentiment. And we've move on from signing players who are at the end of their careers and who 'might be able to offer something.'

This ship has finally sailed.

every player is "overpaid" when viewed it regular everyday terms but most of the time they're really not and well worth it to the clubs paying them. even if utd is paying rooney 250k-300k a week how rich is utd? how many titles/trophy winners has he been a part of, not to mention his commerical appeal over his career? I'm sure whatever he's been paid over his career there United would agree it was worth it

At least, I hope not. Rooney coming back here would be more about marketing that it would be about football.

Pretty much this.

The only person I could see getting something out of it is rooney himself. We wouldn't benifit from a old, on his last legs rooney! So why should we go out of our way for him....Nah thanks!

Now, don't get me wrong. IF and its a big IF we would get something out of it, ie...he was still a very good player or would bring massive monies into the club etc then maybe but can't see him offering much at 34.

If he truly loved everton and was desperate to win something with them as a player then he could of stayed an extra couple of years or made plans to come back before he was old and useless. Don't think anyone would of begrudged him most his career away winning CL and PL titles.

Truth is he doesn't give a hoot about everton (unlike Gerrard at that lot)

He'll probably just buy us in a few years!
 
Given the way he's regularly played Man Utd to ensure he gets even more obscene wages I'd be absolutely staggered if he suddenely decided to take a 75% pay cut to come and play for us, especially as he'd in all likelihood be about as effective as Gazza, Ginola and Hughes were when they joined us.

I've no ill feelings towards him at all, but sod that, we're Everton, we can do better than him.
