Transfer Rumour William Carvalho

I used to think that about McCarthy. But for me, he is a headless chicken and often chasing the opposition as he is often out of position. But that just my opinion.

Ok for Wigan etc. We demand more of our midfielders.

Do we though???

Martinez didn't mate. Koeman does, but he also demands energy and that's one thing McCarthy has in abundance.

He was for so long in the last three seasons the player that made our side tick. He still has that ability, IMO, and when he's confident and in form he's very useful.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be looking to bring another midfielder in, but I am saying we shouldn't be so quick to disregard McCarthy. I think he could be excellent alongside somebody like Carvalho, for example.

He's keeping the 'tache mate, sorry....

Without putting your neck on the line too much Esk (though then again it's up to other posters if they chose to hold onto every word you say then slate you if it turns out not to happen exactly as they say), what's the thinking from your source(s) on this?

I know you've said it's a goer, but are they more confident this will be a bit simpler than the potential Witsel deal, for example?

With all the usual caveats, earlier in the week the view was very positive that the deal would be completed (even with the knowledge of the change of agents). Whether the timing slips or not I don't know but the confidence that his transfer will complete is still there.

I'm not aware of any of the complexities that seem to have held Witsel's previous agreement being present with Carvalho.

so is Witsel off and all attentions now going toward WC?

great stuff. cheers for the update, would be nice for this to come off - I wasn't sold on him at first but if RK wants him I can definitely see how he'd slot into our side (and improve it)

Friday it is then.......

Just to get the ball or should that be heads rolling.

they used to be spot on mate - about three years ago, but I believe the original sold his account for a fair whack. Not sure if they're sourced anymore, or even if it's the same person/people, or if they just write what's in the papers

My understanding is that the account is shared amongst a number of people who have some form of connection(s) with a club(s), and that one of them is a 'she' who works at Everton. Not sure in what role, but obviously not high enough up the food chain to be potentially sacked/sued for 'leaking' such titbits but at a level where they hear confident whispers - as the Walsh appointment would suggest.

I like the way when you look on twitter we dont see other clubs names coming up like we did with Witsel, might not really mean anything on the wider scale of things but still good to see mainly us being linked with someone.

He's capable of it mate but it depends on the style of the side.

McCarthy is decent at breaking up play and scrapping in a tackle and keeping possession ticking over, but he isn't capable of kick-starting counters with a decent pass, and is better at a darting third-man run than actually taking the ball forward himself.

Carvalho can probably do all of the above.

Definite upgrade for me. I don't know why I have this opinion but I actually think McCarthy would be a decent defensive full-back.

Am still of the opinion we may see McCarthy moved on - not that it would bother me too much been over it quite a bit on here. If we do get Carvalho then it would be a big upgrade.
