Transfer Rumour William Carvalho

Definite upgrade for me. I don't know why I have this opinion but I actually think McCarthy would be a decent defensive full-back.

I remember he played there against WBA last season at the Hawthorns when Coleman went off. As an alternative in desperate need yeh it worked, but he's a midfielder IMO.

Honestly, he gets so much stick and while fair enough for some of it, on form he's easily one of our better players. He needs to re-find it though and prove he can be good enough to stay. I think next to somebody like Carvalho, he could thrive. I actually think that would be a better pairing for certain games than Carvalho and Witsel, tbh, though wouldn't complain if we got the Belgian lad as well...

Pairing McCarthy with Carvalho would - to me - be like playing with 10 men. You put McCarthy in the team to mop things up and keep the ball rolling which Carvalho can do whilst Witsel is box-to-box and of a higher quality. My dream would be a 3 man midfield of Carvalho, Witsel and Barkley.

And yes, I think we could/will sign both.

someone like carvalho alongside davies would be good long term. davies can do everything mccarthy can do but is better on the ball and has more of a goal threat in him. only 18 so dont expect him to hold down a regular spot just yet but you never know.

Renato Sanches just did for Benfica and Portugal; age means nothing if the trust and ability are there.

Witsel and Carvalho would compliment each other perfectly and would set a perfect platform to link with Barkley. £55-60m on two central midfielders is a lot of money top spend in the one spot.

If we buy Carvalho there will be no place in the team for McCarthy. Can't see Koeman playing with two sitting mid-fielders, I think he will want someone like Witsel to go box to box. Could be that is the future he sees for Barkley.
I think Koeman will expect more from the players on the pitch.

He's actually a decent DM, that first season for Martinez who was arguably our best player. He's gone backwards like most of our players though.

A new manager might reinvigorate him but I personally think he'll move.

Don't disagree mate.

Just worth noting that Koeman regularly changed formation/system on a game-by-game basis at Saints, but all the while kept Davies in the midfield, either central, wide or even as a No.10.

My thinking is he'll be taking a look at McCarthy playing that utility role first before deciding if he's worth shifting. Jimmy Mac has to step back up, but if he does we all know he's a good player.

Yeh I wouldn't sell him personally as he's at a good age and still has a lot to offer over some of the other midfielders. Big reason I can see him going is because we'll easily get a decent fee for him.

they used to be spot on mate - about three years ago, but I believe the original sold his account for a fair whack. Not sure if they're sourced anymore, or even if it's the same person/people, or if they just write what's in the papers
Was actually a girl that used to post on kipper. Worked at FF apparently. Not sure if she still does.

He regularly played with two sitting midfielders at Saints mate.

In a 4-3-3, Wanyama often got the nod as the central 'holding' player, with a link player/playmaker (Clasie or Ward-Prowse) and shuttler/box-to-box (Davies) on either side.

In a 4-2-3-1, he'd play Wanyama next to a deep-lying playmaker, with Davies ahead of them.

We'll have to see. If we do bring both in and McCarthy is the one to make way, so be it, but think he deserves a chance to prove himself again and I think he'll get it.

i don't know enough about him. read several concerns about his lack of pace but I've read that Arsenal, Utd and Chelsea have all shown interest in the past. If he's a target i'll trust Koeman on this one
