Windows 10

Having issues with it connecting to the network router today. I've restarted the computer, modem, and router and I still can't get it to maintain a connection to the network for longer than a couple of minutes. I've plugged an ethernet cable in and it is working fine but it won't connect over the wireless. This started this afternoon.

I got it as a new install on my new laptop. It has mostly been fine.

We did it as an upgrade from an existing Windows 8 installation, and it has been nothing but a nightmare on that machine.

So if you are starting fresh, I would go for it, but if upgrading, swerve it.

This is the opinion I had based/ guessed. Did a bout of testing in work on new Windows 10 laptops and it seemed fairly slick and I liked the design. But I upgraded from 8 to 10 on k personal laptop and it's horrific. I've made 7 attempts to watch the last game of thrones episode (no spoilers please) and have only got 2/3rds through it. My sound cuts out every 10 mins it seems on videos (most of which won't play) and then comes back half an our later. The start menu and taskbar doesn't work half of the time either. I think most of the drives need uninstalling and reinstalling. But this is a nuisance and didn't always work anyway. Broke my laptop last night, so got a new one which has Windows 10 installed, will get back to this thread on how it differs.

I didn't have any issues with it on my old laptop but recently got a new one and have been experiencing all kinds of crashes and freezes as well as constant 100% disc usage.
Have tried a couple of fixes which will hopefully resolve it.

Windows 10 and certain drivers

For things like graphics adapters or other hardware is a bit of an issue.

Had quite a few issues with NVIDIA's 368.39 driver the past day or so.

They've just released Pascal cards like the 1070 and 1080 and this is probably the most unstable driver I have ever seen for them and older cards (I have two builds one with 660ti and one with 980ti cards in). Both have had problems.

Went back to 368.22 and seems to be fine.

But if you're using Pascal cards that require 368.39 you're screwed. For now.

Seems to be so much happening due to changes in OS changes on hardware that drivers are a big issue at the moment.

Windows 10 runs WWDM 2.0 which is different to any previous OS using WWDM 1.2. Seems to have caused much driver problems.

If someone, hypothetically, was a frequent downloader of torrents and/or watching 3pm away games. Would it be worth his/her while upgrading to windows 10? Asking for a friend like

Tbh don't know there would be a huge amount of difference.

Yeah I think that there were a number of hidden writing processors that were hogging disk use and causing the graphics drive to freeze up due to overload.
Having got rid of them it now seems to be much better and am able to use some high usage requirement programs and yet still not hit 100% disc use.
