Women's Euro 2022

Apparently all the PL teams put out congratulatory tweets for the Lionesses, ourselves included, have a guess which club didn’t and still hasn’t nearly 3 hours after the game finished?

Well if it's the kopites they can hardly be expected to do that when they don't count themselves as English.

Yes I know they go mad when one of their players doesn't gey selected for England. And yes they do court the English media and campaign for ex players and managers to be made knights of the realm.

But allowances have to be made, this means more.

Can't knock the girls , they haven't lost a game in that competition. I enjoyed watching it anyway.
I said earlier in the thread how I've never really watched too much women's footy over the years as the standard wasn't that great. However, I have been genuinely impressed with the progression the women's game has achieved these last few years, culminating in what has been a fantastic tournament, played honestly, fairly and without the drama and predictability of the men's game, capped off with a great final, great result and fantastic scenes at the end.

From an arl cynic to big fan in the space of a month. Thoroughly enjoyable. Well done girls ?

It is weird coming on criticising because they are not as good as the men, or even a low standard mens team, of course they are not! But they are at the pinnacle of their sport and talent after dedicating their lives to it and having the bottle to go win it, well in girls.
For me personally it does not stir up any emotion compared to watching the mens game but dont be weird and belittle them and their amazing achievement.

Not sure why some people expect PL levels when a good portion of these women in the Euros, especially the older ones didnt come through world class football academies, with top class coaching abd facilities.

Lucy Bronze worked in Pizza Hut part time, when she was at Everton. Cant imagine Zidane or Messi reaching those levels having to work, study and play football in their spare time.

Like all games, you get your very good ones and your bad ones, not a bad game every game the way some tell you & carry on

Me too, really enjoyed the way they play for each other. I will definitely be watching the ladies from now on. Can't fault them.

The standard across the tournament as a whole has been impressive.
Massive strides taken since the last Euros and seemingly moving forward at a good rate.

My favourite take from the whole tournament has been how kids (especially the girls as a dad with 2 young daughters) across the country have embraced it without the cynical view of us arl arses and loved every minute.

When countries take a sport seriously and give it a legitimate chance to grow, it always does and the level of play always goes up. Europe is really catching up to the likes of USA, Brazil, Canada, and Australia... and given the resources of some of the club teams backed by Bayern and City and Chelsea, it wouldn't surprise me if they pass them someday. Women's World Cup next year should be a cracker.
