Spot on , one of the best I can recall over the last 40 odd years.I think its been a terrific championships, hosted in a city that is actually bothered and allowing the events to flow thick and fast with no medal ceremony's.
Coe in his era was exceptionally good in 1500 and 800m.There was an interesting conversation Seb Coe had on the BBC last night on a shake up for track and field and its coverage at World Championships and the Olympics.
You can see what Gabby Logan, Michael Johnson and Denise Lewis are edgy: one of the proposals is less yapping time up in the comfy booth and more coverage of events. Also the point Coe made about field events was staggering: they comprise 34% of the events in the stadium but get 3% tv coverage at these games. That has to change.
Mentions also the possibility of scrapping some events altogether...I'd scrap the relays which are team sports and dull. I;d also scrap or at least put out in the road of the host city the 10,000M and even 5,000M events. They're just too long to hold attention. Or scrap the 5,000M altogether and make it a 2M / 3000M event.
Starts at 12:30 here and lasts for about 10 minutes.

He was. The little Tory troll.Coe in his era was exceptionally good in 1500 and 800m.
I grew up when the two Germany's plus the US and USSR took most of the track and field medals. No medals at all for Germany and only one, which came in the penultimate event, for France.
MWAD!
Relays: the most boring 'spectacle' in track and field.
They clutter up these types of championships like Japanese knot weed.
There's 5 of them now with heats and semis.
If Coe and his IAAF lot wants to get shut of anything they should immediately get rid of most of that lot.
They are such a sporty nation though, athletic also. Seems utterly mad that they have become so poor. Perhaps just a blipI grew up when the two Germany's plus the US and USSR took most of the track and field medals.
To see Germany win no medals is shocking. I suppose it underlines that a lot of that German success prior to unification was down to competition between two systems trying to out do each other.
Walking and triple jump, get em gone.I enjoy the relays, they bring a bit of excitement and are a tradition for ending the track part of the games.
The 400m Womens relay was brilliant and what a way for Bol to get some redemption after what happened to her earlier on in the games.
For me, I think the longer distances need to go. The steeplechase races are boring and take too long.
Walking and triple jump, get em gone.
It'll be more to do with the system they have for bringing through athletes. I'm not entirely certain but I think (after obviously the East German programme bit the dust) that athletics would be sponsored largely by big corporations in Germany like Bayer, Adidas, Mercedes, VW etc...as football clubs are to a large degree. They are such a sporty nation though, athletic also. Seems utterly mad that they have become so poor. Perhaps just a blip
He has a very valid point.
