There was an interesting conversation Seb Coe had on the BBC last night on a shake up for track and field and its coverage at World Championships and the Olympics.

You can see what Gabby Logan, Michael Johnson and Denise Lewis are edgy: one of the proposals is less yapping time up in the comfy booth and more coverage of events. Also the point Coe made about field events was staggering: they comprise 34% of the events in the stadium but get 3% tv coverage at these games. That has to change.

Mentions also the possibility of scrapping some events altogether...I'd scrap the relays which are team sports and dull. I;d also scrap or at least put out in the road of the host city the 10,000M and even 5,000M events. They're just too long to hold attention. Or scrap the 5,000M altogether and make it a 2M / 3000M event.

Starts at 12:30 here and lasts for about 10 minutes.

Great effort from the 4x400 team to make the final with a pretty weak team compared to years gone by. Interesting to see Charlie Dobson run such a strong leg, been talk of him stepping up to 400 for a while

Just watched the 800m, what a gutsy bronze for Pattinson. With Hodgkinson to go tomorrow the middle distance runners have performed extremely well at the championships with medalists and lots of finalists.
Mu will prevail there again I think. She looks very strong.

I hope Hodgkinson wins because she was defo impeded in the final of the World Championship last year by Mu, who showed the English runner the inside track then stepped across it when she knew she was beaten for pace.

Going to be a massive showdown there tonight. I'd say the Scottish girl Reekie stands a good chance of picking up the bronze too.

Re Coe's comment about the lack of coverage of field events.
Does this not depend on the BBC producer for the UK.
On French TV the other evening was the whole of the women's pole vaulting and hammer events, plus track hurdles events.

Also, I like the presentation of medals on track after the event.
Never did like that podium stuff of anthems and flag hoisting and chest thumping.
