World Cup 2022

Overall a great draw for England, a first ever meeting with Iran, a rematch from 2010 v the US and we’ve played each of the 3 potential opponents in 4 of the last 5 tournaments, beating Ukraine at both last year’s Euros and the 2012 group stage, Wales at Euro 2016 and drawing with Scotland at last years Euros

I reckon Iran will be a surprise for some on here as they are decent.

Politics makes US Iran quite interesting, last time they played each other in a World Cup match Iran won

Very well organised in the AFC, alongside Saudi Arabia, but they never really seem to turn it up during World Cup’s.

England will do the standard 2-0, but not really critical of Iran, but considering they could have gotten Germany, Senegal and Ecuador, think you have to be happy.

Likewise with the US, really.

Well this should be fun! Almost have to look at that group and think its rigged, 3 fairly allied countries and then Iran. In reality, for the US this is both a tuneup World Cup, and the chance to get Berhalter fired. I think its a tougher group than some realize if Wales get through. Some of these matches that would have less meaning in other groups will have a lot of personal motivation driving players to bring their A game every match.

The main thing holding the US back is horrid coaching, but the talent level is there to make up for some of it. However, its by far the youngest team at the WC, so its a team that is honed for the 2026 WC on home soil. Still blows my mind someone is putting Scotland with better odds to win...

You got a draw in 2010. I dont see any reason you cant get at least that this time around.

The 2010 US team would have taken a dump on this years US squad. Also England is better than they were in 2010.

When things are working this year's US team looks rather good so maybe they can give it a go (maybe a 25% chance of taking pts) but something on the lines of its 95 degrees out/England red card/penalty will have to happen. Just when things aren't going well, its really dreadful, just 10 outfield players staring at each other waiting for someone else to make a play.

England v Scotland or Wales would the final game in the group. Either of the celt giants putting England out and rubbing it in at the final whistle has huge patio chair throwing and GOT meltdown potential.

The amazing thing is that the exact opposite is happening and it’s going to be even better popcorning. I absolutely can’t wait and just fuming that it isn’t in the summer.
