World Cup 2022

It was inevitable that there would be a Winter world cup sometime in our lifetime, so we better get used to the idea now. If Australia/NZ ever end up hosting a WC in the future, it will be winter as well.

Well our winter is Australia's summer and their country is right under the hole in the o-zone layer so the chances of making them play a world cup then would be slim to none. It would be held in our summer/their winter because then you'd have weather capable of playing football in

South Africa was the same

The summer World Cup in 2010 was actually in their winter as they are a southern hemisphere nation. So technically we have had a winter World Cup, it was just the winter of the host nation itself

I wonder whether timezones will be the reason why Aus never gets a WC. Not very friendly times for the western TV audience. I guess they did it in Japan but unless mistaken Australia would be even more awkward than that

I think it's the stadiums being round

The ozone layer is slightly thinner, but the hole is over the Antarctic, and is the first time I've ever heard it used to not host a sporting event. We have them all the time here.

I think its more to do with the lack of a bribe culture in Australia.

Australia time zones would actually be a bit kinder to Europe than Japan/ South Korea. Perth is only 6 hours ahead of most of Europe, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne 8 hours
