Think the only group to have all 4 teams ranked in the top 20 is Englands.
But that places any serious reliance on how the FIFA rankings are made up by as actually accurate. Or relevant.
I mean yeah but Brazil is first by a LOT, England is 5th, and seeing as the whole ranking is ELO points - can see how this alone drags them up as a total/average.
Total points England group: 6490.38 (average ~1622.60)
Total points Brazil group: 6512.28 (average 1628.07)

Not a clue how it is worked out. No idea what ELO points even are. Like, Italy are a better football team than all 4 teams in the England group, just mucked up their qualifying. Mean time, Iran were playing Syria, Iraq, Belize, Saudi etc etc. Think they beat Uruguay, presumably a friendly.

Same, feels like a non event and this time it's "oh yeah, world cups soon... do I really want to watch that?"
It's a performance rating based on results, with the idea that the points you gain are removed from your opponent. So if we both start at 100 and I beat you 5 times for (say) 5 points per win, I'll have 125, you'll have 75. Obviously WAY more mathematical and not as simple but that's the gist of it lol
The thing is you get more points when you play against better/higher ranked opposition or win tournaments as you take the points off. England just lost matches/tournaments, so they lost points over the last period (I believe a year?), whereas Italy gained a bunch for, well, winning lol but they still lost when it mattered. This way also when England beat San Marino with the usual 69-0 they'll gain like barely any points, but Brazil play in a place where everyone is highly ranked, so them winning = points galore.
It's why the rankings aren't very accurate as to "better team", as tournaments and qualifications/knockouts are usually a huge wildcard option, as it was for Italy. It's how balance rankings work for many global organisations or sports that award points. The problem is it's not an extremely accurate representation of every single match, as it's not all maths and AI like lol
