World Snooker Championship

Selby (4 time champion) and Robertson have taken them on and won. Both won their first championships 12 and 8 years ago when the big three would have been in their thirties.

I would also argue that O'Sullivan (as great as he is at the game) has never been truly dominant. His wins have spanned three decades and he's never dominated a generation in the same way as Hendry, Davis and Reardon had.
I agree. It’s why I don’t think Ronnie is the greatest. Best player perhaps, but peak Hendry was the guy I would bet the house on in a World final.

For me the fact he has stayed at the top so long and won more then anyone else makes him the greatest

Just look at the standard of Williams when he beat Stevens to become world champion or Ronnie when he won that World title under Reardon. They have receded well below those levels.

He hasn't had an era. The dominance of Reardon, Davis and Hendry is more impressive for me. Hendry would have won even more had he not got the yips as he was around the same standard as the Class of 92.
And I completely disagree. You talk about Hendry and the yips. Ronnie had major issues as we'll off the table. If he wins Monday it's not even an argument for me who the greatest is .

There was a period where you had Ebdon and Dott doing well. Both players I'm not that fond of and I much prefer the Yans, Wilsons and Trumps of this generation. IMO I think the quality is better now but there's not that much in it.
Ebdon is a top coach now.
Lisowski had him this tournament.

I think it's an interesting debate and it's one where I'll probably sit on the fence. I think Hendry was a trailblazer, revolutionised the game in terms of break building and winning in one visit. I think he moved the game forward considerably. O'Sullivan is a genius but also started playing at a much younger age than Hendry. Thing is O'Sullivan moved the bar up even higher. So I'm torn.

Hendry still has the record for most centuries in a match. In the final of the 1994 UK Championship he made seven. He made six in the span of eight frames!

I think a lot of people forget just how good he was at his best.
