Some woeful goalkeepers on that list, more or less everyone except Martyn who was fantastic.
True. Basically tells us one of the reasons why we have been mediocre for far too many years. Not the only reason I'll grant you, but, could you imagine being an Everton defender and looking around you at kick off time and seeing one of those jokers behind you.
The Manny Fernandez game against Manure in particular when Turner pushed one in his own onion bag. Stubbs was so scared of repeating the error, he took a high line up the pitch. Cue, us with no pace against their quick forwards and from 2 up to losing 2-4.
We still haven't learnt from not going for Shilton in the 70's FFS.

Martyn is the only one who could hold his head up in the same room as big Nev.

Some real poor keepers. Wright? Simmo? Myrhe? Uggh.

Feel like Richard Wright was by far the biggest calamity of that list, if he wasn't being rubbish on the pitch he spent the rest of his time finding new ridiculous ways of getting injured.

That said though my earliest memories of going to games and particularly watching GK's all i can ever remember was Paul Gerrard any time he had a goal kick had this incredible ability to consistently put the ball in the crowd. It was more of a rarity if he actually kept it on the pitch.

I honestly think people have forgotten/blanked out how bad Paul Gerrard was. If it is the latter for gods sake don’t watch any videos or try to remember but he was terrible, way worse than Wright and easily the worst goalie I’ve seen at Everton.

Simonsen should have been given the 15th century catapult after his shambolic effort against Liverpool in 2003. I voted for him without hesitation, but what do you expect from a Tranmere reject?

I don't really get the hate for Gerrard, he was in the sticks for our last win at Mordor and did his best in 2000/01 when the defence just stopped giving one.

Wright was unlucky with injuries, and did reasonably well in 2002/03 despite that debut howler against Spurs. I don't hold him in any particular contempt.

By the way, the dirty nonce who voted for Martyn as the worst post-Southall goalie was 'Hariefc'..... how dare you, Kopite lurker

Wow thats a tough choice. Wright was a bit like pickford. Pulled off some top saves but there was no confidence there. Sort of knew a massive error was just around the corner.
Simonson
Myhre
Gerrard.
All very much the same level of blandness.
Tough choice.

That's the spirit @TGW89 , name and shame. How anybody could possibly vote for Nigel? This tripehound is obviously a complete and utter barsteward. Let's run the cad out of town. I'll supply the pitchforks.

Can't really remember much before Moyes's first full season, so Richard Wright is the first GK I can recall. He was pretty garbage, succeeded by Martyn who is the best keeper we've had post-Southall. Howard was for the most part a decent keeper, nothing special but his last 2 seasons he was crap. Robles was a good guy and again an okay keeper, not good enough to be a long term #1 however. Stekelenberg is an actual hologram.

So Wright or Stek from my memory.

Also, I can't stand Pickford these days but he has saves in his locker that half the keepers on this list can only dream of pulling off. Even in recent history in no universe is he worse than Joel or Stek.

Wow that's tough.

I think most will go for Wright and Simonsen because of their fees and expectations, and I can't argue that, but as someone who regularly watched Paul Gerrard and his utterly bizarre penchant for parrying what felt like every single shot at him right back at the feet of an opposing player, I'll go for him.

All three of those were at the time rated among the best young keepers in the country. For all three to flop quite so badly is an amazing achievement. We had a habit of buying young keepers and kinda ruining them, and you could almost add John Ruddy to that list.
