Would you pay £24m for Lukaku?

What is the maximum you'd pay for Rom?

Realistically I think he needs be getting 20 goals a season to justify the money spent on him, I know the fee we paid is not his fault but it does put him under more pressure to perform

Drags 2 defenders with him wherever he goes and still scores bunches. He's really the only attacker we have who scares the hell out of a defense.

It will be criminal if we don't get an attacking midfielder and a striker in in the next few day's, we should have done this weeks ago, some people might laugh but i think Michu would be an excellent choice, could fit both roles, i stand by my opinion of that being way too much for us to have paid for Rom though

Michu scored two Premier League goals last year, he isn't that great so you probably need to find someone better. Which is the problem isn't it?

And which attacking midfielder would you get? One who is available at a reasonable, wants to join us, doesn't want stupid wages and would improve our team?

If we give Lukaku the ball in the box with a clear sight of goal, the likelihood is, it's ending up in the back of the net. Getting the ball to him in front of goal is what we need to work on.

He doesn't miss many chances. I can't, off the top of my head, think of any instances last season where he missed a big chance. Even off form and without having a sniff all game, he always has finishing ability to fall back on e.g. his winner v Southampton. Gash performance from him as I recall where he didn't look a threat, yet still lashed one first time into the top of the net at the first glimpse of goal to win us the game.

His cool, clinical finishing (that we haven't had since Yakubu), intelligent runs and the fact that the quality of the finishing seems to be immune to general performance and confidence issues is why we've smashed our transfer record. Those qualities are priceless when combined. I haven't seen a hint of the Jelavic confidence issues, the Saha fitness problems or Beckford's wayward finishing so far. He is the real deal.

£28m and an almost guaranteed profit should he leave will be looked back on as a superb bit of business for the club.

I think it was an utter waste of 28 million quid, we played with 10 men yesterday as did Belgium in some of the games he started in the WC, as Tubey said we've seen this too many times last season, what the bloody hell is Martinez playing at not having brought in another striker yet

you're utterly bonkers if your being serious

Christ, if that Leicester bloke didn't handball it and Rom ran onto it and slotted (we all know he would have) we'd have been saying £28 million well spent probably. As someone else said earlier, he probably wouldn't have even been playing if Ross wasn't injured, let alone playing 90 mins

I'm actually crying with laughter that he is being questioned after 1 game.

Some on here said this would happen and I thought they were being overly dramatic. However it's actually happening.

1 game into the new season and despite being our top scorer last season is suddenly a waste of money. I give up.

do people really think there is any other striker with his potential that we could sign, short of producing another rooney it ain't gonna happen, we had to make this deal, even when off form last season we were so much better with him in the team than without

A fully fit Rom = multiple teams getting beasted = happy Goodison

20 goals this season minimum
