Relative to what? Look at those signings in comparison to the competition.

2005 - Beattie 9m : Essien - 24.5m

2006 - Johnson - 8.6m : Andriy Shevchenko - 30m
2007 - Yakubu - 11.25m : Tores - 26m

2008 - Felaini - 15m : Robinho - 32m
2009 - Bily - 10m : Tevez 29m (I think that's highest that year)

This is just the incoming transfers to the Premier League, take 2009 and the big transfer of Bily. At the same time as this, City bought both Tevez and Adebayor for 29m and Lescot for a mere 27.5m, meanwhile Madrid bought Ronaldo for 80m. Big money? Bily was around 10m.

Moyes never bought a big money signing at Everton... not even close.
did we compete with Chelsea and city on transfers ever.
Point is any time Moyes spent big moment relative to his budget it very rarely worked out .
He is not what we need now .

Sorry mate, I think I am missing something.
I don't get how relative to his budget should equate to expecting a decent striker?
One manager spends 90% of a £10m budget, but another spends 50% of a 100m budget, there's a clear bias as to who's most like to get a decent player surely?
At a time when 50m+ was being spent on players, we are quoting less than 10m signings as big money signings and bemoaning 8th - 5th place finishes.

We finished above big spending teams on many occasions under Moyes despite not having a decent striker.

I feel I should re-iterate though... I am not advocating his return either, just defending his record with us :)

My original point was that he did not improve strikers. For example Beattie and Johnson scored more at Southampton and palace than for us. Moyes had his strengths. Getting strikers to score goals was not 1 of them.

But he managed the best team in the land... oh wait.
Be weird af to have him back, but I'd support him 100% if this madness happens.

Can't argue with that, Cahill was pretty good mind but overall, don't disagree with the above at all, it's the all too often thrown around 'big money signings' comment that I can't agree with.

No one ever got those strikers scoring again though. I think when it comes to players like Beattie and Johnson they have purple patches in their career and that doesn´t last very long. Yakubu scored 20 goals when he first arrived, I think any quality striker would´ve done well in a Moyes team from 2008 onward.

Defending his record with us is like wishing America was great again. So much has changed in top flight football in the past 10 years that it's a different time. It took City almost 4 years to right the ship from their will they/won't they be relegated era. Yet many of you expect Everton to do it by November. I simply don't get it.

Before you misinterpret where I'm coming from, some of my beliefs:
-Silva is beyond stubborn
-the 4-2-3-1 is a garbage formation
-the set piece problem is unacceptable

Also:
-Coleman, Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson have to go
-we should be taking advantage of the skills and quality the team has rather then stifling their possibilities
-not having a healthy/presumed starting midfield for more than ONE HALF of football in 8 games isn't Silva's fault; not having any depth is on Brands

Would it be so much to ask that fans trust in the process? At worst, take the time needed to find the manager Brands wants - which btw none of us know instead of sigh, another ludicrous emotional reaction. I've seen a lot of criticism leveled at Silva re: doing the same thing over & over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. So why isn't that applied to Everton's managerial revolving door of the past 6 years? Mind-boggling.

I largely agree with you and unless the wheels come off completely favour sticking with Silva until the summer and a better chance to take stock. The thought of going back to Moyes fills me with despair, it would send a very negative message about the club and it's ambitions.

The squad still reflects the last short term appointment as well as the wishes of RK and RM before him. That's not on Silva, but it is his job to deal with it as best as he can.

The proviso therefore is the wheels stay on. Support for the manager is hemmoragging, once that reaches critical mass it's almost impossible to bring it back and it may already be too late. People don't want jam tomorrow, especially when they are sitting in the stadium miserable at what's on the pitch.

Silva needs immediate results or it doesn't matter what the medium and long term implications, he will have to go.

It took them longer as they let Mark Hughes “lay the foundations”

Maybe we should keep Silva and make Moyes Director of Football!
