2018/19 Yannick Bolasie

He offered more to Everton than Danny Ings did to Liverpool.

Southampton would have loaned him if given the chance, Liverpool told them no, he stays unless they pay £20m.

We need to get better at shifting players - loaning them out isn't enough. Mirallas, Williams and now Bolasie. All 3 would have been prime panic buys to teams struggling in January.

Middlesbrough won't sign him permanently - as we saw with Besic.

They will if they get promoted.

This person hasn't played a single minute of pre-season so there's absolutely nothing to suggest Silva would contemplate playing him even if all our wingers were injured. I genuinely think he'd play Digne on the left wing before him. The fact he's leaving the club in any way at all is a result.

Thought Ings was a loan myself.

Nah, Southampton paid £20m for him.

Liverpool, like most top clubs, don't loan out players like that. They only loan out for development, not to just "get off the books".

He is also 5 or so years younger and not on 100k a week.

3 years difference.

Ings significantly more injury prone.

Liverpool signed him for £6m, he played about 10 games in 3 years an sell him for £20m.

We sign Bolasie for £25m, one bad injury, plays every game when fit - we loan him out.

Sure, a lot of differences but for me it's indicative of how poor we've been shifting players.

Loaning a 29-year-old 'proven' premier league player out to a championship club isn't cause for celebration or "a great day".

Bolaise is costing us 9m a season, so forget his transfer fee, that moneys gone.

If you factor in his wages and his transfer fee over his 5 year contract he costs us 9m a season.

So if we can get Boro to give us like a 2m loan fee and pay some of his wages, we can get some money back, from an accounting POV its a good deal, if Rico gets injured, from a footballing POV its BAD, very, very BAD.
I think if Richy gets injured, and Bolasie comes in, its almost worse than having just about anyone else available there.

Right now I think hes about 6th or 7th in the pecking order. Walcott can play there, Bernard can play there, and with Lookman and Sandro, either one can play there or play somewhere else and allow us to bump Walcott or Siggurdson over. We have plenty of depth there where it would take injuries to Richy, Walcott, Bernard AND Lookman for him to even see any playing time.

So Bolasie is 3 years older with only one less knee ligament injury than Danny Ings, and who exactly do you think is going to pay money for him?

If it was me, he'd be staying on the bench/occasional late sub until January when a club would pay actual money for him.

Middlesbrough have played a blinder here. Why pay £15m for him when they can tell him to sit on his hands and pick him up on loan.

And on deadline day he attracted serious late attention from Premier League sides Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Boro had also been in the mix before the transfer window closed and had made enquiries over a possible £15m real deal but Bolasie was believed to be holding out for a top flight move in a tense final few hours.

But that didn’t materialise and now with the window closed that option is no longer available as Premier League clubs can’t loan - but Championship clubs can.
