Where does it begin and end with that though? If a player clips a corner into the box into a ruck of players and it gets a touch goal-ward - is that a chance created?

And a chance created could be counted if a poor ball is played through which then is made into a half chance by the player the ball was intended for - that technically is a chance created.

You have to ask why the stats people make the distinction between 'assist' and 'chance created'. And that sort of stuff must be the explanation - or part of it. One is clear cut; the other is vague.

The one thing I will give you is that you are incessant. I cant actually believe you have got me discussing whether 'chances created' is a valid form of proving someones worth. Well done, you fished me up.

Neither of them would cost much more than that - I agree with Dave on this.

You're looking at £15mil for Ribery, £25mil for Robben - at 33 and 32 respectively.

I read it as that was the stature of player he was expecting, rather than them players themselves, I agree with you on the prices you have given considering there age!

He's started well in an Everton shirt, one poor performance and he's getting the transfer fee slammed down his gullet.

All very predictable.

As for the chances created vs assists discussion, if you're creating chances for Aguero his clinical finishing is going to result in your assist column looking better than if you're setting up Stuart Barlow. It ain't complicated.

He should be on 5 assists already, but misses from Rom and Ross (WBA) and Valencia (Bournemouth) have conspired against him. Imagine Sergio on the end of those, Bolasie would be lauded.

He's been the best out of our front 4 so far this year, but its more fun to slag him off on a forum.

Mate, have you heard of inflation? It's where goods rise in price over a period of time, I don't think you have taken this into account when quoting a Ribery or Robben at 25 mil in 2016
They'd actually go for less. You can be sure - as good as they are - their next clubs wont be spending anything like £25M for players in their early to mid thirties. They'll know that and will be looking for a last big wage contract.

He's not fishing - he's serious, and right.

A "chance created" could be an aimless punt into the box that a striker gets a head on and flicks 20 yards wide of the goal. It means nothing.

It's relevant though: it goes to the heart of why we would be paying so much for a player with obviously poor return on what he's said to offer.

Also even though he had a fairly quiet game he was still going at them and actually two of his crosses maybe should have led to goals.

Like I said wingers are extremey inconsistent unless they are the very best. We arent quite in the category of attracting that sort of player yet, hopefully players like Bolasie can facilitate us getting to that level.

So can an assist be a boot from defence, just like a cross could end up going in the net. We may as well not call anything, anything because it could be something else. Really weird discussion this.

Which is why you go with what your eyes tell you, and the reason physical scouts exist instead of relying on Football Manager numbers.

So? Baines got an "assist" for his missed penalty against Stoke because it rebounded off the post and back off Given.

Goals and assist stats tell us Osman has been better than Iniesta for the past 10 years.

So was Bolasies cross to Valencia a chance created?

Yes. Just as the one in the first half v. Sunderland when he put that cross to Lukaku was.

I'm just saying, there's no point just basing it on goals and assists when talking about 'end product'.

If a player is creating the chances, which Bolasie has so far for us, then he has end product.

Albeit, he was awful on Saturday and I think the cross to Valencia was the only decent one he got in all game.

We all knew he was inconsistent, but he's had a very good start. Probably just needs to simplify his game, which applies to pretty much all of our players tbh.
