That's the thing mate, his 8 years of football career prior suggests otherwise.

4 assists in the 14 games he played for us last season, without taking set pieces

There were also a fair few chances that he put on a plate for people which weren't converted, but you would say were sitters

He's extremely frustrating (his performance at Bournemouth away last season was one of the worst any player put in during the whole season, for example), but he's fast and whilst very unorthodox, created enough to make me think he was worth having around.

Won't score many goals and I get why he won't be everyone's cup of tea, but "crap" isn't how I would describe him by a long stretch.

I didn't want Everton to sign him, but he was effective enough when playing for us that I can see the merit in having him

In 291 games in his entire career, hes scored 29 goals. 1 in 10... for an out-and-out attacking player, and to compound matters - most of it was League 2, League 1 and Championship.

40 assists also in his career, in 9 years. Equates to 4.444 recurring a season. That's his stats that matter.

Its all about the assist of the assister.... I thought we all agreed on that with Pienaar??

The assists stat is a load of arse. To get an assist you need the striker or player he's passed it too to bury the chance. I counted at least 6/7 chances he put on a plate for our players last season that weren't taken, his stats would have been much improved then and he wouldnt be getting the stick he gets.
But that evens itself out over time.

Yes people will miss great chances which someone else has created for them, it's part of the game. By the same token, you will get 'assists' like the one he got for Lukaku at City last year, where he's just touched the ball and then Lukaku's run 60 yards, beaten two defenders and slotted. You'll also get them when an overhit cross ends up with someone arriving at the back stick even though you were aiming for the striker at the front post, or when someone sticks a leg out and diverts your wild shot that was going to hit the corner flag into the back of the net. If you don't get a lot of assists in his position, you're not doing a great job. - and his record for assists is not great.

That being said, he's a useful player to have. He offers something a bit different and isn't a bad option to have. I very much subscribe to the view that his stats for us last year were skewed somewhat by the lopsided way we played though.

Agree 100% with this, plus we've been crying out for pace and width this season. Genuinely baffles me that people are coming onto the Bolasie thread to slate him when he's about to come back from injury.

He would walk into this team at the moment. He had a very good spell for us at the start then he quietened a little before he got injured. He also looked tired for some reason.
Even on his limited games he has showed more for Everton than Gylfi, Sandro and Klaasen put together.
I can't wait til he's back just for a bit of excitement because we are soooo boring at the moment.

Didn't he score in that game? Good goal if I recall.
