It transforms the team and makes up for failings in other positions if you've got decent centre halves. Amount of times under Moyes we'd grind a terrible 1-0 win out because we could defend.
Yep. Some excellent CBs. He inherited them and left other equally good. Distin and a young Jagielka were a very good pairing. Lescott was an excellent purchase too.

He was poor yesterday, but Keane was far, far worse.

Overall, Mina has been probably our best player this season. Doesn't say much, I know, but he's a good player and one to build the defence around imo.

Needs pace next to him - unfortunately so does Keane.

Seriously? Better then for example Richarlison? Has Mina had a MOTM Performance?
Being better then a bad player dosent make him good enough.

In fairness to both Mina and Keane, their lack of pace has been multiplied by the loss of a true holding midfielder to protect them. if Gana Gueye was still here they wouldn’t be put in half as many dodgy situations as they are at present. I am not claiming they ar top quality, but they are perfectly decent defenders, when they have somebody with pace alongside them or a machine in front of them providing protection. Keane has shown h can be a decent when alongside Zouma for example. So while I desperately hope that Ancellotti arrives with the names of some good Italian CB‘s in his briefcase to hand over to Brands, I don’t believe we have to bin off our entire defence.

The problem is that both of them struggle to defend the half way line. It´s no coincidence they both looked solid at Old Trafford because we were pinned back for large amounts of that game. Rather than relying on what´s in front of them, I want my centre halves to be taking care of things themselves and driving the team forward. If you have no faith in your defence the whole team is going to struggle as a consequence.

I'd say so, yes.

I love Richarlison, but Mina has been pretty consistent at a decent level. I'd say he was our best player in a fair few games tbh. West Ham he was excellent. Southampton and Burnley too.

He's our best defender by far, let's put it that way. I don't think he is our best player, but he's been our most consistent performer this season. Richarlison had a pretty poor start and DCL has only just really come into form. As I've said, it's pretty slim pickings.

Bloody hell just seen his 2nd sitter in the 2nd half, thought the 1st half chance was bad but that was shocking.

He's absolutely crap when it comes to attacking balls, fella of his size should have at least 5/6 goals a season.

A new centre back is an absolute must, in fact 2 are needed because we need to give Burnley Keane back plus give them another 10m as an apology for sending him their way.

It's true.

Barcelona signed him in January, made his debut in February and he was out the door by August!

He made 4 sub appearances and 1 start and was being touted out by the summer! Fair play to them, they immediately recognised he wasn't good enough.

We signed him off the back of 4 semi-decent games at the World Cup against Japan, Poland, Senegal and England and the fact he played for Barca ("so he must be good").
I guess they just put that buy back clause in for a laugh.

To be fair your entire argument for stating that Pellegrini is a world class manager is that he managed Real Madrid.

And got a club record points haul there. And won a Premier League title. And got Villareal in the Champions League. And got Malaga in the Champions League.

But loads have done those.

Harry Redknapp got Spurs in the Champions League, Moyes got us in it, so what?
