2022/23 Yerry Mina

Undoubtedly our best defender, as sick as we all are with his injury record I can never question his attitude on the pitch. Hopefully he can see out these last 3 games and help keep us up.

If were going to let Mina leave...do we then also sell DCL?

As their injuries currently put them in a similar bracket.
Not for me. Mina is leaving regardless. I don’t think he would sign a new deal anyway. And he is 29 in September. This will be his last real move and we would want him to take a pay cut.

DCL is 26 and I believe has 2 years left. For me, we give him next season and see whether he can maintain his current fitness now that he has been allowed to actually get fit again and not rushed back. We still need to bring in another striker though to rotate/play alongside.

Going to be an interesting summer window if we stay up and don't retain Mina or sign Coady

We're going to need to sign some centre backs or promote from the youth set up, and judging by financial restraints it may have to be the latter

I'm glad Mina not only did well yesterday but that he seemingly got through it okay

The last thing we need right now is another injury prone player, so for that reason I'd be against giving him a new deal, but I'd wish him well wherever he ended up. No beef with Yerry at all, we just don't have allowance for having a player on the books who never plays
We'll have Branthwaite back for next season so we might need another 2 unless we are keeping Godfrey.
Think Holgate will be gone.

To be fair he has been fit and available for months now, just wasn't getting picked.
Yes, agreed. But how many years has he been at the club now? How many games over that long sample size has he missed? This is an open and shut case. At his best, a fine defender, but completely unreliable and therefore has to go come the summer if we are serious about rebuilding.

In fact, it's quite arguable that the only reason he was available last night is precisely because he wasn't being picked. Had he been so, every chance he'd be in an ambulance.

Selling one defender and bringing in another, why couldn’t we do that in one window?

Mina is out of contract, Coady going back to Wolves, you're saying sell Keane

We're going to need more than one new defender in that situation, especially if we need to think about replacing Coleman also if he's done through injury

So one right back and two centre backs at least, not to mention other areas of the squad that will need improving

For a team with no money, that's a big ask, especially as I don't expect we'll get much for Keane so it's not like his sale can finance it alone

If he doesn't get injured in the first half of the City game then maybe I'll believe something has changed. I'll be astonished if that doesn't happen though. Fantastic player when his body allows.
