Young EFC Players Out On Loan 16-17

couple of bad loan moves for Garbutt have really knocked him back I think. The seaosn he broke through he looked impressive, particularly in Europe. I sense his opportunity with us may have passed him by unless he can prove himself over the next few months to koeman. May have to impress Unsworth first though.

Do you reckon he's got much of a future mate? Never seems to do anything while on loan at a lower level.
He's had some injury problems and his loan spells have been unspectacular (to say the least).

Thing is, he got into the first team and did OK. So people were a little excited because, as we have seen, it can be a big jump between youth team and steady week-in week-out first team performer. And he got a new contract, sent out on loan to give him experience (especially on the defensive side of things) and then... not a lot.

Some of what I do has to do with web search. And the owner of buycheapthingsonline.co.uk might say "I'm the same as Amazon, I sell cheap things online just like they do, why don't the search engines treat me like Amazon?" The answer is, of course, that you have to be in some aspect better than Amazon (or TripAdvisor or Booking.com).

Same thing with young players. Not only do you have to have skill and luck on your side, you have to be better.

Better than the established first team player ahead of you.
Better than other established first team squad players who might also be able to play that position.
Better than any reasonably-priced replacement in the Championship or with another PL side.
Better than someone agents are touting around from elsewhere in the world.
Better than any of your fellow youth team members who can also play your position.
Better than the ones coming up the escalator behind you from the U18s.

Not just adequate.

he has no future at everton, nowhere near good enough and hes 24 soon. his agent will be trying to find a decent league 1 club for him i'd guess. only problem is hes still got 3 yrs on his everton contract though.

Think thats a bit harsh to be fair, Leagu one well be low his level. He showed enough a couple of years ago to suggest he is more than capable of playing in the Championship and potentially the Premier League just maybe not at the top end.

Loaning young players out is a very difficult thing, look at the likes of Galloway and Barkley, if the player makes a mistake or the manager just doesn't take to them then the loand can be a disaster and set the player back. Garbutt has been unlucky with injuries and when a club is invested in the players development then heir game time can be reduced making the loan worthless.

I think the club are being much more careful about who and where a player goes on loan now after a few disasters.

hes only really excelled at league 1/league 2 level.

i thought that after sending lundstrum to the worst club in england ie. blackpool

He performed well in our team in the league and in Europe, didn't work out at Fulham at all. Some players respond better to having better players around them, they raise their game to play at a similar level - look at Davies. Maybe this was true of Garbutt or maybe he just isn't good enough? I think it's a shame that things appear to not have worked out for him as he definetly showed potential.

...Oviedo going nowhere apparently;

Actually makes sense given he was chosen as cover ahead of Galloway at the start of the season.

Jeez yeah. Wonder why we haven't brought him back yet? I thought it was strange that he was sent there in the first place, he's clearly not physical enough for Tony Pulis' rugby club, hence why they're playing a 6ft 4 meathead right back in his place. Reckon we should recall him and send him back out to a top-end Championship side personally.

Apparently Pulis won't let him come back as he wants him as cover.
