Young EFC Players Out On Loan 16-17

...be interesting if Connolly is seen to have a future at Everton. I doubt both him and Kenny will be here. Kenny has been given a contract which might suggest he's ahead of Connolly in the pecking order. I like Kenny but I thought he was poor against United in the week.

i believe they have the same contract eggs, both tied up to 2019. personally think connolly has more chance than kenny.

I wouldn't read too much into Kenny's contract mate and I'm not sure what it is , but Connolly got a 3 year extension last year until 2019 so it suggests that even last year he was well regarded. Given that the then 22 year old Sam Byram went for about £4 mill from the Championship to WHU instead of us last January , I'd expect if 19 years oldConnolly continues like this in the Championship somebody will give him a career, so far no reason to believe it won't be us.
It's strange how the loan system changes things about. This time last year Kenny (and Walsh) were the successes Connolly had a few games at Barnsley but nothing much. This year on game time and level played Connolly is proving to be the success, excluding of course Niasse pulling up trees at Hull.

Kenny was poor the other night Eggs but in fairness to him he has recently lost his grandad might be affectting him.

I was under the impression Connolly played more often on the left? Is he a Phil Neville (or Philip Lahm if you prefer) style utility player rather than a specialist on either flank?
Yes to most of that, I wrote a bit about Connolly in the "Utility player" thread, he's certainly our most versatile player in the club able to play across all four back positions and midfield. Despite being naturally right footed he's played most of his games for us and England youth on the left , is very comfortable on either flank and has a good left foot too e.g. his disallowed goal last night was with his left. At the moment I'd say he's a FB capable of playing on either flank, but he's played left and right CB in a back three.

He's right footed Bruce but, like most of our youth, is adept with their wrong foot as it's drilled into them by the coaching team from a very young age apparently.

He's played mainly on the left, mainly because he came through the ranks with Kenny who is more suited to the right. Kenny can play on the left too but Connolly was presumably more proficient there.

Hope he's more Lahm than Neville.;) Can play midfield too.

My concern for the lad is that, in this culture of specialised players and multiple subs, his flexibility may actually be what holds him back. Didn't realise he was playing last night so missed it but pleased he did well again. It's good that he's standing out in a struggling team at that level.

i think he'll be a full back long term (probably stating the obvious) but if he can play either side it should make him a more valuable player to have in the squad. can see him pushing baines for his place next season.

Hope so mate. But I can see us buying somebody for that position in the summer.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Verasatiliy isn't a curse of not knowing where to play him, it's the bonus of knowing if he's played on the left he can cut in shoot with his right, if he's on the right he can clear comfortably with his left foot etc. Baines is clearly the better left back at the moment , but at some time his curve will be heading down as Connolly's is heading up to meet it. I'm encouraged by Koeman's approach to youngsters so far so who knows.

...I didn't know that, Matey. As I say, I like Kenny so i'm not writing him off. If you look at his reaction when United missed the first penalty it demonstrated how much the game matters to him. It's little moments like that you notice in a match.

Barnsley - Gethin Jones played full match in 0-0 home draw with Preston North End

OS Match Report
"Preston felt they should have had a penalty just before the break when Hugill went down under the challenge of Gethin Jones, only for the Preston forward's protests to fall on deaf ears."

Twitter stuff
61 - Gethin Jones gives away a corner under pressure from Preston's attack.
62 - It's now the Reds' turn to have a corner as Jones' cross is put behind.

Fan comments
"Clearly Jones isn't as good at going forward as Bree yet, but Bree was initially not particularly effective going forward but he has developed his game and hopefully our other full backs can do that"
"I like the look of Jones. I thought he was poor today but I'm sure he will develop well. I hope we sign him permanently."

Preston North End - Tyias Browning played full match in 0-0 away draw at Barnsley

OS Match Report

Fan comments
"Really **** game - Browne, Makienok and Browning not good enough."
"Despite a shout from one fan in the away end who demanded he be sent back to Everton, little over five minutes after kick off, he was steady and generally did okay. He will improve with the more match fitness he gains."
"Was reasonable enough defensively, but showed nothing going forward and looks more like a centre back playing out of position at full back."
"Doesn't look like an attacking full back. Solid defensively."
"Looked lazy and like he couldn't give a **** to me. Hope I'm wrong."

Scottish Premier League
Motherwell - Russell Griffiths was an unused sub for the game

Doncaster Rovers - Conor Grant played full match in 1-1 home draw with Morecambe

OS Match Report

16' So nearly 1-0 to Rovers, as Conor Grant evades Roche but there was Edwards on the line to clear the danger. 0-0
22' Off the line once again, Marquis plays a square ball to Grant who gets his shot off, only to be denied by Kenyon. 0-0
29' The corner is played back out to the original taker Grant, but he misguides his cross and it goes out for a goal kick. 0-1
55' Grant's left-footed free kick is narrowly over the top of the crossbar. 0-1

Grimsby Town - Calum Dyson started and was subbed in the 84th minute of 1-1 home draw with Luton Town

OS Match Report
"Town were the first to attack when a nice touch from Dyson almost put Yussuf through, only for defender Scott Cuthbert to get to the ball first and clear the danger."
"Dyson did well to win a corner after getting onto a ball down the line and holding off Cuthbert with half an hour on the clock."
"One additional minute was signalled to be played at the end of the half and Dyson sent a speculative effort well over the bar in what proved to be the last attack before the interval."

Twitter stuff
28: OVER! Dyson flashes a header over from Davies' centre from the right

Fan comments
"Like the look of Dyson you can tell he's been well coached and not afraid of hard work. Credit to both forwards though they made their presence felt."
"I thought Dyson was a bit hit and miss myself. Just a bit out of position and slow to react at times, but not too surprising as he's not been playing at such a competitive level. Showed enough to lead me to think he has the potential to improve as he trains with his teammates. That said, his fitness clearly isn't there yet as he was buggered after an hour. Can't imagine why Bignot waited until the last ten minutes to sub him as he was too knackered to do anything from 70 minutes onwards. Not a bad debut, considering."
"Impressed with Dyson, kept thinks simple, one maybe two touches then moved the ball on, some nice first time round the corner touches too, also won a fair share of his headers."
"Was impressed with Dyson who showed a good maturity to his play for such a young lad, he worked hard and won a lot in the air, looks a great signing."
"Dyson showed a lot of intelligent touches, held it up well and won plenty of headers."
"Dyson ran himself into the ground ( but maybe should've come off a bit earlier)."

Cheers mate, what the hell is happening with Galloway? If he's not injured and Pullis won't play him or let him come back then this is ruining a young guy's season at a vital age. These new loan rules don't appear to be working.
