Sample fan comments
"Dowell is a 19 year old rookie. He has been sent here by Everton to develop. He is demonstrating all of the naivety of a 19 year old rookie, and he has not yet developed the strength and stamina that will come. As such, in what is a genuinely competitive division, he cannot do the full 90 minutes. And, despite his natural ability, he will make mistakes. What concerns me is that he came here all fresh and keen. He is beginning to look a bit jaded and dispirited. 19 year olds, unless they are totally exceptional, should not be playing every bloody game."
"Dowell seems to have lost something since the beginning of the season. I think we should be using him from the subs bench as he's comfortable in possession and holds the ball well."
"McKay and Dowell are both passengers for far too much of the game. They remind me of Lansbury at the minute in that they score a goal every now and then to keep the praise ticking over but lack the effort to really help the team overall for 90 minutes. You look at Derby and Vydra was flanked by Nugent and Russell who ran and chased everything, then you look at us and Murphy is the one chasing defenders whilst Dowell and McKay are walking around. If you want the ball, go and get it."
"Yet again, once Dowell went off we were finished as an attacking force."
"Don't know what Dowell does. I understand his role and what he's supposed to do, but what is he doing? He never retains the ball and isn't doing anything to create."

As divisive there as he is here. Hopefully the former is more correct.

At the moment Dowell is displaying the same talents and flaws that he displayed for us. Unfortunately it is still the flaws that define him. He has to improve his concentration in games . For me he is currently nowhere near PL standard.

Should have scored 2; could have scored 3 (but was a somewhat difficult header to direct).

Overall a much better Anderlecht performance, just the finishing was way off and the defending quite lacklustre (will improve when Spahic and others return) . I hope they keep improving like this and return to their former level.

League Two (Tuesday)
Crewe Alexandra - Conor Grant played full match in 2-0 home win over leaders Notts County

OS Match Report
"Dickinson forced Richards into a smart save from a free-kick after Conor Grant was penalised for a little pullback."
"...more good play from the impressive Ainley found Conor Grant and after a mazy run into the box he shot straight at the County goalkeeper."

Twitter stuff
86' CHANCE! Neat interplay between Ainley & Grant with the latter getting into the box to shoot - saved low by Fitzsimons (2-0)

Fan comments
"Lowery and Grant worked very well together, the former replaced by a robust in the tackle Walker."
"Grant and Walker played as central midfield players should. They protected our defence solidly. They efficiently supported the forwards at every opportunity."

Championship
Barnsley - Joe Williams played full match and was awarded MOM in 0-1 home defeat to Hull City

OS Match Report
"The intensity in Barnsley’s attacks fired up, with an excellent run and pass from Joe Williams picking out Adam Hammill, who fired inches past the post with a deflected low drive."

2 - Harvey Barnes curls just over the bar from 20 yards after good work in midfield from Joe Williams.

Fan comments
"I suspect he'll we havin a word with Williams & Hammill re their spat. Two bad losers, which is a good trait, but not if it affects team morale."
"(Adam Hammill) Clearly not impressed with the MOM choice as he was shaking his head in front of the east stand lower when Williams was announced over the tannoy."
"Don't think he liked the bollocking he got off Williams."
"Saw him shake his head. Commented to my mates. They got into a right barney after the final whistle."
"Williams is busy and confident in that he always wants the ball, but he loses it too often and hasn't got a pass in him. Thought he was average at best today."
"He will be playing in the premiership regularly in 2 years. Very good loan signing."
"I'm a big fan of Williams as well and I think he's been getting better every week. He is clever with his timing of challenges and the way he can nick the ball and if he can get stronger and improve his pass selection then he'll be a very good player."
"Bang average for me."
"He was good for 70mins our central midfield was then babber for the last 20. He needs to do the simple things better like laying off the ball quicker and finding the easy pass after he's done all the hard work."
"Fastly becoming one of my favourite players. Always showing for the ball. Putting 100% in every game."

..bit of a spat between Williams and Hammill. Hammill is also a scouser and a product of LFC youth. He’s talented but has a naughty reputation. Sounds like Williams is a strong character.

Anderlecht play Genk in 1.5 hour - the team Everton played in preseason (1-1); currently 11th in the Championship since like Anderlecht they have been dreadful this season.

Onyekuru will start, unless something very strange happens. He'll also probably stay for the season, since there appears to be no recall clause. Very strange interview, if he was aware of that.
