Young EFC Players Out On Loan 17-18

Good read!
Kone was flavour of the month on the transfer thread here a couple of summers ago, but I don't think you'll find many these days that would admit they ever wanted him.
What do you think of Galloway?
Hard to tell tbh. He started badly in the most awful Simon Grayson mess, was targeted for being poor and has barely been seen since.

Chris Coleman will suss him if he's any good I reckon. Might take a few more weeks though.

We're surprised you lads have barely noticed Browning to date. Admittedly another 2 inches and a little pace away from being top 10 PL class.

Which is cool with me. And exactly why he's out on loan where he is now and not with us in he big league.

I hate to sound like a 'DOES HE TRACK BACK?!' merchant. But does he track back?!

We see 30 second glimpses of magic because boss goals look great. I need to know what he does over 90 minutes to judge but I just can't be arsed to each a Nottingham Forest match.
Does David Silva track back? The correct answer being who gives a flip? Kieran Dowell was not put on this earth to put in a shift defensively. He was touched by the hand of God to score 30 yard worldies against the run of play. You don't ask Michaelangelo to paint your house because he knows his way around a paintbrush lol

...I actually think he’d have been our best option on the right side this season because he already has a very effective partnership with Kenny. I know Unsworth always thought his best position would be as a no10 but it’s difficult to see him getting game time there.

I doubt Dowell will ever be a ‘busy’ player but I think busy players often flatter to deceive. With Dowell I think you will always get pretty much what you get now, which is real quality when in possession of the football. Players like him fleetingly impact games but have the ability to make a difference. I think he’s a bit better than being a ‘luxury’ but he will frustrate at times.

It’ll be interesting if Everton cash him in or decide to introduce him into the squad.

Listen to the Rooney interview on Talksport. Ferguson pulled Rooney aside at united and told him not to track back so much so he could save his energy for the attacking third and after 70 minutes. He specifically told him not to be so busy as you rightly called it.

I'm with you as well. Would you rather see Dowell on the right this season or Lennon? Why exactly we bought Vlasic to play the same position as Dowell is another Koeman genius move.

I wouldn't go that far. He had few goes in the first team a couple of years ago (came on in the derby if I remember rightly?) and then has been out on loans which haven't been wildly successful (injuries as well, I think).

'Track back' was only used as a comical way of putting 'work hard' mate. If you asked 'Does David Silva work hard?' the answer would be 100% yes.

I'm not getting that from Dowell yet. Which is why it's great where he is now. Learning. I wouldn't want him learning here. He simply wouldn't be allowed to. You know exactly how the Goodison crowd would get if he's having a game where the worldies aren't happening. And there would be lots.

I'm not even adverse to Dowell having another loan season at a slightly better club next season.

I wouldn't have Dowell anywhere near the right.

Would be exactly the same as when we used to put Ross there.

My personal preference will always be to have a winger out wide. Not an attacking mid.

I think the idea is the ball comes in to Kieron on the right, he steps inside onto his left and finds Kenny bombing on with any number of his slick passing repertoire a-la pienaar

Which is great. I'm just not sure how much help a player like Dowell would offer the full back at the moment. And we definitely need that.

oh I agree completely, which is why lennon has been so valuable last few games, right now its a no, but long term, wouldn't rule it out entirely

It's a fine line though. Rooney was a striker, and his habit of dropping deeper to get involved could lead to a loss of the teams shape, so it wasn't just about conserving energy. Dowell isn't a striker, and there is therefore an expectation that he will at least attempt to do his bit defensively. Also worth pointing out that Rooney has been one of the finest players of his generation, and so could have got away with being a luxury player if he wanted - he didn't - it remains to be seen whether Dowell will ever be able to have enough of an impact in an attacking sense to justify not contributing defensively.

Just speaking to a Sunderland ST holder I work with. A few weeks back, he said Galloway wasn't cutting it & wasn't getting a look in. He reckons he's like a new player since Coleman came in. Absolutely raving about him!

Also said Browning was MoM at the weekend. Hopes they sell the "lazy ****" Kone, as they have a ready made replacement..

I wasn't having a go buddy, but I reject the notion that Dowell is lazy and doesn't work hard.

Dowell isn't a winger but more of a right sided forward - or a #10 which is where I think he will end up eventually with more experience. Think Pienaar/Baines only the opposite.

Point taken, however until anyone actually gets a chance in the team it will always remain to be seen. He's had an impact on every team he's ever been in, so I'm optimistic that will continue - but as you say remains to be seen.

As for Browning, I still have hopes he can make it at Everton. Moyes called him the best one v one defender at the club and that was 5 years ago. Holgate's emergence, and the fact we still have Keane is a problem for him though.
