Your top 20 worst/stupidest Everton signings

Hitzlesperger

I was going to say him but wasn't going to attempt the surname!

Was reading an interview he did about Henderson going to Saudi land and he was talking about co-owning a restaurant in London after playing for West Ham. And coming through at Villa. And playing for Germany. And then he mentioned playing for Everton and I genuinely had no idea when that was! Seems it was in Moyes last season but no recollection of him whatsoever.

Going back to the title and one that certainly qualifies as a little bit odd was getting rid of Graham Stuart when he was still only about 27 and sending him to Sheffield United. He then came back up with Charlton and played as premier league regular up to mid 2000s. Mitch Ward came from Sheffield United around the same time although not sure it was directly a swop deal and was a real downgrade to put it mildly.

Another bad call was swopping Unsworth for Danny Williamson in August 1997 although of course no one could imagine the injuries the poor guy would pick up.

So a difficult season for Kendall in his final spell here was compounded by some questionable selection calls although of course Unsworth and Stuart were high wage earners so that would've been part of it.

Did Philippe Senderos end up here at some point or have I made that up in my head
Indeed. Here he is in his pomp ..

In terms of obviously terrible ones at the time it’s probably Maupay and Tosun for me. They were just hard to justify at the prices in the moment and as expected went awful.

Mikey Walsh
Glenn Kealey
You spelt Keeley wrong and I think you were wrong to name him. Kendall made the mistake in making him play in that Derby game, Glen Keeley told him he wasn’t match fit, he hadn’t played all summer and that was his first game of the season, Howard told him he’d be okay, he wasn’t and never played again for The Blues, but he was an excellent centre back for Blackburn Rovers in hundreds of games and would have been a great signing for Everton but Kendall made a huge mistake in that Derby game and helped Liverpool to humiliate us in a 5-0 loss, definitely not GlenKeeley’s fault which I have pointed out here on many occasion.

I understand the other squad players questioned his ability, not fitness,in the training sessions before the game.
What was Kendall supposed to say?

I doubt that very much, I mean the state of the squad then including Howard’s seven signings with only the two goalkeepers standing out and Neville took time to stake his place, he might have been sent out on loan after that Derby game, not sure, I repeat Glen Keeley was a very good player and Kendall knew that having been his manager at Blackburn, Howard played him when he wasn’t fit.
