“We need to do what Brighton do and sign young players with high potential for relatively modest sums.”

Everton proceed to sign a young player with high potential for a relatively modest sum.

“What are we doing?! We should be signing proven players who can improve the team now!”
We need a blend of both. If DCL was fit it wouldn't be such a problem. But as it stands we still need another proven goalscorer.

Sporting must rate Gyokeres higher than this lad. So it isn’t just me who thinks he is levels below him. He also seems to be like 4th or 5th first choice on our wanted list.

I have watched the YouTube of him, and seen their fans comments on him leaving, which is basically not bothered he’s crap much like Maupay and Brighton fans.

“Everton fans, please know that there is not even one portuguese person that rates this guy. U got fenessed!!” Stuff like that.

At least he has a bit of height and is young. What is good return from him this season? 5-10 goals and 5 assists, that what we need bare minimum from him.

A sizable proportion of this forum seems to think this club is Brad Pitt, and can pick up Jennifer Aniston like it's nothing. It is, in fact, a dowager duchess that hasn't lifted silverware in thirty years. That's fixable, but not overnight.

OK.

How about if I told you we could sign a striker in his mid-twenties who has played 3 seasons of top flight football in England, scoring approximately 25 goals in total during that time.

Would this type of player suit what you mean?

Is he going to slot straight away into the level of the Premiership?
Sounds unlikely
Maybe we have signed him as one for the future
The plan is to get him up to speed in the Championship next season

That's being silly,we aren't in that financial bracket. But as we are a side with little to nil creativity this lad unless he's an exceptional talent will do well to get more than five goals this season. Meanwhile we had an Italian team who were interested in Maupay who have a striker at the right age with a decent scoring record in Seria A who we could well have negotiated a deal for...

….a few of us have made the point re Gyokeres and it’s very fair. You wonder why they signed him if they had this kid on their conveyer belt. I wasn’t keen on us signing Gyokeres, I like him but thought top flight defenders would be comfortable marking him.

All we can hope for is that Chermiti game might suit the PL more & he can develop past Gyokeres. Chermiti is the type of player we should be acquiring but ultimately they have to be good enough to improve us and only time will tell us that. We can judge Thelwell at the end of the season on this purchase.

Oooo Mysterious
Obvious you mean Maupay
Does the number of chances he had in that time not count?

8 goals a season for a striker in his prime years, sounds like an Everton player already.. sign him up.

Oh but we were in that bracket.

That was Neal Maupay’s stats before he joined us.

Anyone that we can afford that fits the “proven” category, is a risk. Otherwise, why are the other team selling? (See Maupay) At least with younger players, they have an upside and could at least increase in value for a resale.
