Hugely encouraging start to the Moyes era. Villa are in the CL, but they certainly didn't outclass us.

Onana should have been sent off in the first half and we should have had a penalty, but thems the breaks.

We now have nine cup finals before we say goodbye to Goodison.

Saw Dom in the players' lounge and he looked desperately sad.

Sensible post.

As I said previously in the thread, Moyes has had 3 days to meet and work with these players. They are working on muscle memory. That's how football works.

I wasn't over enthused by Moyes' appointment but I know he is the man for the job, currently.

If that was Dyche is charge tonight, I have no doubts we would have been absolutely battered.

Let Moyes and his team have a couple of weeks training and we will be sound.

Was driving so had to listen to the clubs commentary. It's not a bad start really, wouldn't have fancied us getting anything if Dyche was still in the dugout and we at least ventured forward and tried to do something.

Thought the subs to bring on Beto and O'brien needed to happen 5 to 10 mins earlier.

We desperately need to freshen up the squad this month. Confident we'll be ok but it will take a good few games to shake off the Dychitis

Watching the game tonight are shortcomings were stark, but we definitely played higher up the pitch, also 1st half Mykolenko was very narrow, 2nd half he pushed further and wide up the pitch. We made a few errors in possession which was alarming but not surprising considering the way we have been playing under the previous stewardship this season. I think we have enough to turn things round but I don’t think we are gonna see instant bounce based on tonight. We did create some better chances than we have recently but Villa were a bit better and smarter than we are.

Okay so which one of you can tell me where I can get a MEGA baseball cap 😂 I saw it during the broadcast two kids wearing them and I was thinking about it. Make Everton Great Again.

But then I'm like ugh I dunno. I thought it was funny. It's the little things I guess.

Never nice to lose
And I didnt love the starting line up but I got it.
I've spent two years screaming at the telly for the manager to make obvious changes and it never happened.
Tonight it did. I thought we matched villa for the most part.
We played with much more intensity and further up the pitch.
Yeah, it was messy and I dont expect anything from the spurs game
but at the moment all I want to see is progression, and I think we got a bit of that.

In a few weeks we could have a team of
Pickford
Obrien, Tark, Branthwaite
Lindstrom, Mangala, gana, Myko
McNeil, Ndiaye
Striker

Maybe a new left wing back and striker
I also think Garner could do a job at right wing back

We should have enough in the tank to beat bottom half teams.

made me and I'd say most American Evertonians want to puke.

The thing I absolutely despise is the whole "do the same thing over and over again but expect different results". Moyes did that with Phil fn Neville for YEARS despite him being the absolute worst player on the pitch. Dominic Calvert-Lewin should be absolutely nowhere near the entire squad. He's been dreadful for eons. I don't care that he runs the channels, this isn't the 90s. Your striker has to actually do SOMETHING these days and he does literally nothing of note. I haven't thought he's been a good striker for years, at this point I'm utterly done with any pretense. He's absolutely [Poor language removed].
I would give Beto a run with Ndiaye behind him. Probably won't happen but he scores one of tjose chanced tonight even for how ungainly he is

Kind of agree but it was incredibly frustrating. I think it felt a little more positive and there was slightly more attacking intent but we are truely gash.
Dyche tried to press in his early days but realised we were absolute turd and had no money to spend so went backs to wall defensive. He would likely have got a nill nill draw and a point out of this game. Moyes tried to be a little more positive, but he will get more and more defensive again with this squad unless there is quality investment.
I felt the frustration too, but I think that kind of came from feeling we were actually playing better, creating more attacks, so it felt like they were closer to producing that result. And then they never got there.

But I think it was a start, thats all, and he was trying to get a read for the players before he starts to really make changes to whos out there. Plus I think we do get reinforcements.
