Swansea City have aimed a thinly-veiled tapping-up warning at Everton and reiterated they will not cave in over their demands for £50 million for Gylfi Sigurdsson.
A statement from the club’s American owners Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien also said they were “optimistic” Sigurdsson would reconsider his decision to pull out of Swansea’s tour to the United States.

Sigurdsson withdrew from manager Paul Clement’s squad just two hours before it was due to depart for Philadelphia yesterday morning, claiming he was not in the “right frame of mind” to participate.
The Iceland midfielder is keen to move to Everton, but the Merseyside club’s only official bid to date has been for a transfer package worth £30 million.
Swansea are basing their valuation on Everton’s own £50 million pricetag for Ross Barkley, who is refusing to sign a new contract, while Kyle Walker’s move from Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester City for a fee in excess of £50 million will serve to strengthen the resolve at the Welsh club.
The disparity between Everton and Swansea over the player does not point to a quick resolution with the prospect of Sigurdsson being left in limbo in the meantime.
Swansea have been angered by what they perceive as Everton’s public pursuit of the 27-year-old and said reaching an agreement with the player, before the club, would contravene rules.
“We are disappointed Gylfi has taken the decision not to join his teammates in America where they are working with the coaching staff to prepare for the upcoming season,” said the statement.

“At this time we have not received an offer from any club which represents a fair valuation of Gylfi given his importance to our club. As we have stated, we will not be bullied or forced into a decision until a club meets our valuation of the player, no matter whether they believe they have an agreement with the player.
“Any such agreement would obviously be in contravention of Premier League legislation. We have the ultimate respect for Gylfi as a person and a player and we are optimistic that he will reconsider his decision and join his team-mates.”
Everton manager Ronald Koeman wants to continue his spending spree by securing Sigurdsson, while Olivier Giroud is also a target. However, Giroud favours a move to Borussia Dortmund if they sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Koeman could also move for a left-sided defender with Ramiro Funes Mori facing a lengthy absence due to a knee injury.
