£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

Is siggurdson at 40 odd million spending too much when we get probably 30 back at least when we sell Barkley so really he will cost at most 20 million to the club.

bit surprised siggurdsson has told them that tbh, but it should resolve this pretty quickly now. Wouldn't have gone over £35m myself, but the way this window has gone, £40m is acceptable now. If we pay a bit more, meh. We've gone as high as £40m, an extra couple of million won't hurt. Another good deal for all 3 parties.

I think Ross gets hung for far more than that mate personally.

Such as holding onto the ball for way to long, giving the ball away etc...he only started to take a lot of that out of his game in the second half of last season when he was decent, so I would like to see him show that for a much longer period before I commit to actually saying it looks like the penny has dropped.

I am not anti-Ross by any stretch and would actually like him to stay and fight for his place.

Ross gets hung for the 18 games where he was one of the best on the pitch.....

All this is teaching me is that we have some of the most miserable, unhappy, never happy set of fans in the land.

The club are signing talent for both the future and the now, yet still they moan.
Short memories on some people mate. It wasn't that long ago we were signing the likes of Gibson for half a million and hailing it as great business.... After signing Felliani It took 6 years to break our transfer record again. We've done it twice this window already and look like doing it a couple more times but people still find negitives

This is why I don't understand people saying he's Premier League proven like its a good thing. He's proven to be a good player at Swansea's level but not good enough to be at Tottenham's level. We are aspiring to get to Tottenham's level, so the deal just doesn't make sense.

May as well chuck Schneiderlain and Keane in the bin then.

Because he's plays for a tin pot club where everything goes through him by default

which means he has more chance to mess things up. People bang the drum about ross' stats on "most chances created" in the league and if we had a better forward line it would have been different, but siggurdsson had an even worse attack to work with and still doubled ross' stats.

We played with a striker who didn't bring others into the game - the opposite of a Llorente - and Barkley created many, many more chances than the eventual assists bared out.

It's fair game to take out set pieces. If two strikers score 20 goals but one of them grabbed 8 from penalties, then to make a fair open play comparison you exclude those goals.

Sigurdsson is a set piece specialist - that's worth keeping in mind when talking about his value - but when you talk about who the better actual footballer is in open play, you have to exclude them.
Yeah, but "chances created" takes only limited account of the QUALITY of those chances. It's not at all unreasonable to assume that the average quality of chance created by Barkley was significantly less than that created by Sigurdsson, when you consider that Barkley will on average have been creating for significantly better quality players, and created a lot MORE "chances" with less end result.

The set pieces - the penalty argument is a little off, as you're *expected* to score from pens, it's more of a story when you miss. You're not expected to score from any given free kick or corner. Also surely the overall measure has to not be "how good are they from open play" (though the chance creation:assist consideration somewhat takes care of that) but "how much effect do they have overall?"

Had this been 12 months ago he would have gone for 25 mil tops.. Everyone is richer now in the Prem and clubs know are new owner is splashing the cash, he is not worth £40 odd mil but if the main
man wants to pay well let's let him... Think its been a great window up to now a top striker and just watch us go I think we will surprise a few teams this season ..

We tried 12 months ago, he opted to stay.

I feel that is all a tad dramatic for me - if he does well he will get plaudits, football fans are very fickle.

He isn't a kid who has just broken into the side, he's been in it for 4 years, people have made judgements on what they have seen over a prolonged period.

di maria flopped in the league, siggurdsson hasn't.

i'd take di maria over him, obviously, but he won't entertain the idea of coming here, most of the players mentioned in this thread wouldn't.

He didnt flop, he got robbed and moved to hotel....his family hated it.

siggurdsson flopped at mid-table spurs.
