£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

completely agree - Wayne is neither an upgrade or a replacement for Rom. Rooney at this stage in his career is never EVER going to score the number of goals Lukaku will get in a season. That said Rooney already appears to bettter at build up and bringing others into play which was never Rom's strong point. Lukaku is an arrow head to the attack which is why he scores goals what ever level he plays at. What we need to do now is get another CF in who can make the most of the chances Rooney will create

Where will Rooney be playing if we sign another CF? If as seems likely we play 433...

Slight correction Dave...

In Lukaku, we sold a good goalscorer, not one of our best players and we've replaced him with Rooney, a far better player who also scores goals.

As for Ross... I love the lad and have always wanted him to reach his full potential with Everton, but sadly and for whatever reason... and NO, this is not an invitation for you to get back on your 'Let's blame Koeman' hobbyhorse... Ross seems to keep coming up short.
Lukaku was far and away the best player at the club.

How can people not see this?

getting a bit boring now, make a final bid and if Swansea turn it down then move on. We could try to get Ziyech, he's every bit as good, younger, and probably cheaper.

At the start of the window all this talk of big money etc I expected 100mil spent to get us into a top 4 ish squad. So far it looks like pretty much sell to buy which will not cover the whole squad transformation I had personally expected.

As for @davek I think he made the following points

1 -- He likes Sigurdsson but if its sell to buy why not spend the money on a superstar defender
2 -- We have a lot (10+) attacking players and yet we have jags/Williams competing at centre back and Baines at left back
3 -- Moshiri has said we wouldn't sell our top players.....but he has
4 -- Moshiri hasn't spent big money at all like some are claiming....
5 -- Weve sold Lukaku and others and yet overpaid for players which is not good when selling to buy
6 -- Weve bought and are continuing to bid for premier league players at big prices. Why not other top Europeans for big money...

I cant argue with any of his points....you can discuss them and make counter points about players wanting to leave or us selling attackers after signing Sigurdsson but no one can say he is wrong...

As for signing Giroud and Sigurdsson, we will never get 4th when we have a mess of our defence. Its a total shambles. Were dropping 80mil in transfer fees on two players in attacking slots, then will probably sell some of the other 10 we have whilst neglecting the defence.

If we spent on these two attackers and don't sort the defence, its just wasting another season.
Interesting point. Would buying siguardsson for 50m or VVD for 60m win you more points over the course of a season?
Let's just get both to end the debate.

6. In frank, we had a clown in charge for 3 years prior to the appointment of Koeman so I am happy with the current setup because Everton are going in the right direction. For me anyway.
agreed. people talking about sell to buy and how nothing has changed? Remember Billy having to be sold before we could bring in Kev for 6m, The Arteta money vanishing, Panic buys on deadline day, Drenthe and the Count double loan. Gibson was our first cash signing in like 2 years and he cost 500 grand. Things have massively changed. We aren't spending like United, Chelsea and City granted but no one else is either but as my man here said we are going in the right direction.

1. I have asserted that this point time after time. If the so-called best players moaned everytime when they were away from the club, agitating a move away what can you do? Keep them or sell them to reinvest the squad?

2. We don't know if we would sign another CB before 31st Aug. I expect one who will replace Funes Mori's role at the club in long terms. Not a top one like Van Dijk or Koulibaly though.

3. We have Rooney and Sandro so getting a target man like Giroud is a must. We need different type of striker in different set of tactic.

4. I have said this again. Signing proven PL players in Siguardsson and Giroud with big sum is to add instant quality to the team so that we have a richer chance to bridge the gap between the top 4 and 7th. This resale value...making profits thing is not an issue since we got loads of youth players and younger senior players and they would be sold for profits. As I have asserted that most of our major signings this summer are under the age of 24 not to mention that we have added a lot for the U23 squad.

5. There are still quite a few deadwoods who will be sold to recoup some fees back. What's the worry? When Jags and Barry leave, I expect Holgate and Davies to step up and replace them.

6. In frank, we had a clown in charge for 3 years prior to the appointment of Koeman so I am happy with the current setup because Everton are going in the right direction. For me anyway.

1 -- No idea. But the fact is that Moshiri made that statement and so @davek is correct.

2 -- If we don't sign a top centre back then what is the point of signing Sigurdsson? Its pointless.

3 -- We have Rooney, Sandro, DCL, Mirallas, Lookman, Niasse who can all play CF We also have Lennon, Bolasie (injured), Dowell and Barkley as attacking players, If we go with 433 why haven't we sold some of these players when we need a total of 7. If we sign Giroud then that's 11 attackers and 7 who can play centre forward....DCL is 3rd choice, let him be an option.

4 -- We wont get 4th place with such a poor defence. Why spend 80mil+ on even more attackers instead of using that money to fix the defence

5 -- The defence could line up like this: Martina -- Jagielka -- Williams -- Connolly with just a couple of suspensions/injuries. The best we can put out is this Kenny -- Holgate -- Keane -- Baines and even that has no natural left sided centre back.

6-- Why call a former manager a clown? He achieved more in his first season than Koeman.

I doubt the increase will be that much. It'll be along the same incremental increases we've seen for the past four seasons or so.

Nothing new there.

Dont think so mate, the figures are approx including amortisation granted but a significant liability has been taken on annually with this summer recruitment, i do think there will have to some out goings. Its the true investment on transfers this summer, the transfer fees to a large extent are irreverent and over all incremental add ons to the over all cost of the transfer in comparison to the wages.

The question should really be...which is more sensible/logical;

A -- Adding 50mil Sigurdsson to our existing 10 attacking players
B -- Signing a huge upgrade on Williams to play with fellow new signings Pickford and Keane thus fixing the central defensive area.

Personally quite amazed if we don't get a super centre back as then it kind of defeats the purpose of Keane and Pickford when we play an absolute liability at centre back.

The talk of big money was speculation. No one guaranteed anything.

I can argue for the sake of it buddy.

1. What's wrong with sell to buy? Every club sells players to generate funds unless you have a sugar daddy like Citch or Chelski.

2. If we have merely Williams/Jagielka and Baines after 31 August and that is deemed adequate by the manager and the director of football then so be it. Do you trust Koeman that is the point.

3. Part of negotiation. Running a football club is a business.

4. Moshiri has put £150m to the club right? You are no longer going to Goodison Park for home matches after 2021 or 2022? So you don't think the club are not in a better state/condition financially with him in charge?

5. This is purely an opinion by a poster. The manager and the board will decide whether they are overpaying an individual or not.

6. This is not FM or FIFA.
