£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

You are joking!

We have made an offer. They have said sod off.

We DON'T have to kow-tow to their demands. It's a hard-nosed business game, which other teams play (probably far more than we have in recent seasons). ManU chasing Fellaini & Baines; Chelski chasing Stones; Citeh chasing Rodwell & Lescott. RS chasing VVD, with Aldridge doing all he can to swing it for them (by saying the player should go on strike, among other things). All played out in the media from their end.

We may ultimately walk away totally, leaving them with a disgruntled player.

But to suggest that if we do as I say we are no better than that lot across the park is insulting...

If we want the player then negotiate and pay the price
To walk away and hope to get him on the cheap on the last day of the window is what the RS have done with VVD and what Spurs are hoping to do with Barkley
We are better than that and don't want to go down that road and put clubs off dealing with us

Also.... I have a man crush on Siggy. Always wanted him even from his Reading days. Clever player and will be a terrific signing... Imo

Haven't been on this thread for a couple of days so I had a few pages to get through to catch up. I gave up after reading half a dozen pages of anti-moshiri tripe from Happy Harry.

What's the point in having threads for different, specific topics when they all get derailed by the same utterly predictive comments from the same person? It's worse than bloody advertising.

Anything happening re Sigurdsson?

Negotiating is good. Great.
BUT THEY DONT WANT TO SELL!!!!!

How can you negotiate for something thats not for sale? You cant. The owner dictates " i really dont want to sell but give me this'insert amount' and you can have it."
So its clear the amount is 50 mil. We have wasted valuable time for the player to join and get settled in for the sake of haggling over a few million which darei say is peanuts in this league. So lets just pay the 50 now, today this very second or move on as like i said he could have been here already settled in, played a game in pre season etc .

They have said he will go if the offer is right

The question should really be...which is more sensible/logical;

A -- Adding 50mil Sigurdsson to our existing 10 attacking players
B -- Signing a huge upgrade on Williams to play with fellow new signings Pickford and Keane thus fixing the central defensive area.

Personally quite amazed if we don't get a super centre back as then it kind of defeats the purpose of Keane and Pickford when we play an absolute liability at centre back.

Not sure about how Williams played last season, but he's always been very solid for Swansea and he would probably start for every team in the league besides Spurs and maybe United. Unless he is a shadow of himself, then I don't see the need to replace him when you have Jagielka/Holgate and even Funes Mori when he finally gets back as back ups. They would be starters for Liverpool, Arsenal and maybe even City.

None of those other 10 attacking players are on Sigurdsson's level. And clearly not many of the other Playmakers in the league are, considering he is tied 1st with the most goals and assists of any midfielder since 2014/15.

Keep in mind, I say tied with 1st because he has an assist against Arsenal that isn't officially registered for some odd reason.

We also have Steve Walsh. If these guys cant find better players than Giroud and Sigurdsson for 80mil+ then that tells me the whole of football is a mess or our scouting network is.

It wasn't too long ago that Giroud was starting every game for Arsenal, so having him for £20-30 million is nothing to be ashamed of. Rather him than Rooney upfront.

And as far as Sigurdsson goes, you're not overpaying for arguably the best Playmaker in the Premier League when his stats are better than players worth £60-80+ million.

You rarely see any of the other Playmakers in the league scoring goals or assisting like him with their strong foot compared to his ''weak'' foot. I don't know if Ozil has ever scored goals like that, or if he can cross the ball on his left like that.

Didn't Ozil get bought for £42.5 million or something? Wouldn't he be sold for £60-80 million even though he's the same age as Sigurdsson and has worse stats? I bet none of you would complain over paying £50 million for him.

Spot on. Selling clubs hold all the power this summer, and even with money now we can't just give in to any demands thrown at us. People seem to forget that Swansea are playing a game too, attempting to appease their fans by looking tough, showing a public backing of their manager etc. We're attempting to sign their best player, and whilst I'm not 100% on him there's no doubt that without him Swansea would be in a much worse place. Even with that money in their back pocket, they probably think they can't replace him. We've had it fairly easy this summer in regards to negotiations, this is the first challenge. Even then, 45 million + 5 million in add ons will probably do it.

Siggy is 28 now.

Ozil was younger when bought etc

1. Moshiri is the man in charge so he can say what he wants.

2. Well that's the decision of the manager and the dof. They think signing Siguardsson is not pointless.

3. Niasse mate are you serious? None of the players you have mentioned above are target man. I honestly see we will sign a big forward before 31 August. Wait and see.

4. Sorry, I won't write the team off in July.

5. Again, it's not 31 August yet so we don't know if we are getting more defenders in.

6. Cos he is. No, Koeman has already done more than him at the club. He is repairing the damage/mess the fraud had done to the club in less than a year.

1-- So he can lie to supporters?

2 -- Well perhaps someone can explain the logic of signing an 11th attacking player instead of a defender

3 -- DCL is a target man. Why have we got so many of these forwards if we can only play 3 max? Yet not enough quality defenders

4 -- What if we get knocked out of Europa....

5 -- That's what ive said

6 -- Koeman has done NOTHING. lol whats he done? Finished 7th? lol

Alternatively you could argue, that we have already significantly strengthened with the purchases of Pickford and Keane.
However when you analysis it further, we have two long term injuries to contend with (Coleman and Mori) and the signs were there for all to see last season that baines is in the decline.
We have two ageing centre halves in jagielka and Williams. Whilst another is a young prospect (Holgate) who many suspect is not ready to play in a 2.
VVD or koulibaly is pie in the sky it's never going to happen, but like you I still think we need another centre half. Gibson is young, English, has Premiership experience and is left footed. He would be ideal in my eyes.

Funny enough I just came back too, but couldn't be bothered reading through the 150+ quotes & mentions.

Regarding Sigurdsson however, £40+5 million bid offered & subsequently rejected. Sky sports have suspended bets on the transfer & it's just a matter of time when Everton buckle and pay the full asking price.

Siggy is 28 now.

Ozil was younger when bought etc

So United/Chelsea/Real Madrid/Barcelona/etc wouldn't have to have £50+ million for him 28?

Ozil was what, 24 or 25? He wont last nearly as long as Siggy. He has missed 52 matches due to injuries in his career when Gylfi has only missed 1 match for Swansea.

He also relies far too much on pace, which means he wont age as well and Siggy. Add all of that plus Gylfi is superior at set pieces, free kicks & penalties along with being better at scoring goals, defending, heading.. I'd say £50 million is fair.

Just pay the money Everton.

Yes he isn't worth £50m, but it will end up £42M + add ons. I'd be happy to pay £30m +£30m if we win a trophy next 2 seasons - throw that at Swansea?

We were after Aranoutivic last year for £10m - he had just gone for £24m after a poor season. Lukaku was touted around last year for £40-50m and we have got anything up to £100m if you believe reports.

We really missed the boat last summer when I reckon you could have got Sigurdsson for £15-20m.

If we get Sig and Giroud in, then in 2/3 years time Henry and Lookman look ready-made replacements. If not, just buy again. in 2019/20 summer, players like Sig might be going to £100m+
