£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

No-one guaranteed anything but even today people are amazed we have spent so much....but we haven't spent anything when looking at sales.

1 -- Sell to buy is actually fine as long as the correct areas are strengthened. For example, if we sold Lukaku but signed Rooney and Sandro to replace him and added to that with Pickford, Keane and a top centre back then weve massively improved defence but taken a gamble in attack, That's fine with me....but if we sign a midfielder instead of a centre back then were still gambling in attack and weak in defence....pointless

2 -- I don't think anyone would be happy with baines, Williams and jags starting with Cuco the clown at right back (which will happen if keane gets injured) as we will lose every game

3 -- No. He made that statement. He couldn't back it up. He failed.

4 -- We're not discussing anything other than the transfer window, In particular the Sigurdsson deal.

5 -- Its common sense if were overpaying....

6 -- We have scouts across the globe. he have scouts for all levels at the club. We have head and chief scouts. We also have Steve Walsh. if these guys cant find better players than Giroud and Sigurdsson for 80mil+ then that tells me the whole of football is a mess or our scouting network is.

1. Ok. It's the manager and the dof's decision. Then again, it's not 31 August yet and most people will back the manager.

2. You ask me not to call RM a clown yet you call Cuco a clown with him not kicking a ball (official match) for the club:coffee:.

3. I don't care.

4. Ok you just said you are not discussing anything other than the transfer window.

5. The manager and the dof want him. The board back the signing. No point of moaning.

6. Every club has head and chief scouts. We used to have scouts around the globe and we signed Niasse and Rodgriuez. This isn't as straightforward as you think.

Funny enough I just came back too, but couldn't be bothered reading through the 150+ quotes & mentions.

Regarding Sigurdsson however, £40+5 million bid offered & subsequently rejected. Sky sports have suspended bets on the transfer & it's just a matter of time when Everton buckle and pay the full asking price.

So United/Chelsea/Real Madrid/Barcelona/etc wouldn't have to have £50+ million for him 28?

Ozil was what, 24 or 25? He wont last nearly as long as Siggy. He has missed 52 matches due to injuries in his career when Gylfi has only missed 1 match for Swansea.

He also relies far too much on pace, which means he wont age as well and Siggy. Add all of that plus Gylfi is superior at set pieces, free kicks & penalties along with being better at scoring goals, defending, heading.. I'd say £50 million is fair.

Hi mate.

Williams is not and has never been an absolute liability. He was pretty decent last year actually. Not amazing, but not the carthorse that some people like to believe he is. I agree we could do with another centre back, but the idea that we were awful at the back last season is just mental.

Are we not talking about our defence now?

This thread is for Sigurdsson, not one for you too bicker in.

1-- So he can lie to supporters?

2 -- Well perhaps someone can explain the logic of signing an 11th attacking player instead of a defender

3 -- DCL is a target man. Why have we got so many of these forwards if we can only play 3 max? Yet not enough quality defenders

4 -- What if we get knocked out of Europa....

5 -- That's what ive said

6 -- Koeman has done NOTHING. lol whats he done? Finished 7th? lol

1. When has he lied?

2. Because @davek said we needed to break teams down and defence is boring

3. We don't have many 'target men' type forwards and also we've got lots of younger players without experience and who we cannot rely on to deliver

4. What if we win it!!!

5. ???

6. He has moved us from mid table obscurity after 2 mid table finishes to a team playing in Europe and pushing teams above us. There's no way before this season people would talk about us as CL contenders.

Fee of 45 million plus 5 in add ons will be agreed later today.
Medical will take place at FF tomorrow.
Signing announced and Gylfi on the pitch Thursday.

Make some notes in your diaries ladies x

Usually I don't take predictions on forums seriously, but it has been suggested multiple times that they would finish the deal once Swansea return home. Maybe Gylfi wants to say goodbye but didn't want to travel to the US and risk an injury playing friendlies.

The question should really be...which is more sensible/logical;

A -- Adding 50mil Sigurdsson to our existing 10 attacking players
B -- Signing a huge upgrade on Williams to play with fellow new signings Pickford and Keane thus fixing the central defensive area.

Personally quite amazed if we don't get a super centre back as then it kind of defeats the purpose of Keane and Pickford when we play an absolute liability at centre back.
Or C. Do both...

1. Technically yes. I don't consider that was a lie. Football is a business and circumstance changes everyday.

2. Then you can take Steve Walsh's job:).

3. DCL is untried and is still learning the trade. Although I agree we should sign another CB.

4. What if...you answer it yourselves.

5. Ok.

6. What had RM done? Nothing(n)while taking back the club backwards. I have answered that...Koeman has taken the club to the norms (fighting for a Euro place) in a year time.

Everybody is saying that they want 50 mil for the player...maybe this is incorrect. Maybe they value the player much higher than that and they know we got 75 mil for lukaku...I don't see anywhere an official claim from Swansea saying that they value sigurdson at 50 mil. I can see them wanting closer to 60-65 mil for the player which would be crazy!

I do not get what you are going for here bud.

Ozil is really slow and not a player I would consider to have pace even a little bit, neither Siggy.

28ish is considered a midfield players peak years, so we've sort of missed out on all the best bits.

Injury record means absolutely nothing??? Besic had never been injured once prior to arrival at Everton yet he's hailed as injury prone by all here.

Oh my God, saying Ozil relies on pace, and then somehow trying to spin that Sigurdsson is better than Ozil because he's even slower than him. You really do never cease to amaze.

Also, a footballer's peak years are basically 25-29. So lol yes there's a huge difference in buying a player at 24 and buying one at 28.

Just pay the money Everton.

Yes he isn't worth £50m, but it will end up £42M + add ons. I'd be happy to pay £30m +£30m if we win a trophy next 2 seasons - throw that at Swansea?

We were after Aranoutivic last year for £10m - he had just gone for £24m after a poor season. Lukaku was touted around last year for £40-50m and we have got anything up to £100m if you believe reports.

We really missed the boat last summer when I reckon you could have got Sigurdsson for £15-20m.

If we get Sig and Giroud in, then in 2/3 years time Henry and Lookman look ready-made replacements. If not, just buy again. in 2019/20 summer, players like Sig might be going to £100m+
Or the market might have collapsed and we might be stuck paying people £150k to sit on the bench.

The attitude of just paying fees because that seems to be the way the market is going (note that not everybody is throwing money round like it's going out of fashion) is a very dangerous one. Not that long ago a lot of people ended up handing back the keys to their mortgaged houses because they found house prices started to go down rather than carrying on going up like they assumed. The same thing WILL happen in football at some point, things can't just keep going the way they have been recently forever.
