£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

If you have a flood in your ground floor do you then build a new roof while it floods?

Agree to disagree.

I think the moaning of signing Siguardsson with a big sum is way over the top. It seems some people will never be happy no matter what the club do.

Sorry ,got a bit carried away there for a min, i just want the deal done, so we can move on and discuss our next signing. This has gone on long enough now. ;)
I was against it at first for the price, but now it's gone on for so long I just want it done too.

Think all this faffing around could backfire, surely Walshy etc could see how obvious it was that Swansea would reject a bid lower than their openly known 50m price tag.

Just remembered that Manchester City bought Bernardo Silva for £43m. City of all clubs pay less money for a better player in the same position in the same transfer window.

At the start of the window all this talk of big money etc I expected 100mil spent to get us into a top 4 ish squad. So far it looks like pretty much sell to buy which will not cover the whole squad transformation I had personally expected.

As for @davek I think he made the following points

1 -- He likes Sigurdsson but if its sell to buy why not spend the money on a superstar defender
2 -- We have a lot (10+) attacking players and yet we have jags/Williams competing at centre back and Baines at left back
3 -- Moshiri has said we wouldn't sell our top players.....but he has
4 -- Moshiri hasn't spent big money at all like some are claiming....
5 -- Weve sold Lukaku and others and yet overpaid for players which is not good when selling to buy
6 -- Weve bought and are continuing to bid for premier league players at big prices. Why not other top Europeans for big money...

I cant argue with any of his points....you can discuss them and make counter points about players wanting to leave or us selling attackers after signing Sigurdsson but no one can say he is wrong...

As for signing Giroud and Sigurdsson, we will never get 4th when we have a mess of our defence. Its a total shambles. Were dropping 80mil in transfer fees on two players in attacking slots, then will probably sell some of the other 10 we have whilst neglecting the defence.

If we spent on these two attackers and don't sort the defence, its just wasting another season.

Does the window close tonight or on the last day of August
Still 5/6 weeks to go
No one here knows ( despite their bullish claims ) how much we have to spend , who we will buy , and who we will sell
If we can see that we need a striker , a centre half ( yes I'm that old I call them centre halves ) and a left full ( ditto) cover I'm sure RK and Walsh know this too
Chill out and as was said enjoy the ride
I can still remember the tumbleweed running through our transfer window.
Anybody know how Spurs are doing in the transfer market this summer ??

That one is reeled out every summer and has been for the last 15 years. The bubble continues to grow exponentially year on year. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
Oh I am, don't get me wrong.

The only reason I mentioned that particular post is the poster was saying we all know he's not worth the money but pay it anyway. That's foolish, and it really is a dangerous game to be playing. If the club thinks £50m for Sigurdsson is good business then I'll respectfully disagree but get on with supporting him while he plays for us. If they think £50m is really £10m too much but they're not quite sure where else to go, I hope they are sensible enough to step away and not just pay it for the sake of it.

Kodi is a Sky killer. Give it a few years and when enough people realise they can get away with not paying and that bubble is going to bang.

Oh my God, saying Ozil relies on pace, and then somehow trying to spin that Sigurdsson is better than Ozil because he's even slower than him. You really do never cease to amaze.

Also, a footballer's peak years are basically 25-29. So lol yes there's a huge difference in buying a player at 24 and buying one at 28.

Technique wise, there is no question who is the better player. Regardless of how good Ozil is he is still one footed. And Sigurdsson basically matches him on it in regards to through balls and is even better than him at crossing or shooting on his left.

I do not get what you are going for here bud.

Ozil is really slow and not a player I would consider to have pace even a little bit, neither Siggy.

28ish is considered a midfield players peak years, so we've sort of missed out on all the best bits.

Injury record means absolutely nothing??? Besic had never been injured once prior to arrival at Everton yet he's hailed as injury prone by all here.

Ozil isn't extremely fast but he is faster than Sigurdsson, and relies on it. Once he loses it due to old age or injuries he simply wont be the same player as he is today.

Sigurdsson however, does not rely on pace. His whole style of football relies around being slow, and he can play more positions.

Also, Sigurdsson's prime only just begun. And not every player worsens by age, just look at Zidane at 34.

Sigurdsson relies even less on pace than him, and has been much less injured. There is no doubt in my mind that Sigurdsson can play at this level for another 8-10 years.

Williams has perhaps this season left in the league....that's if he doesn't crumble during the season.
Baines is the same
Jagielka is finished. Perhaps can play a handful of games if surrounded by pace in a back 3.
Mori is injured for 6months

None of them would start for any of the clubs you mentioned.

Williams starts for Arsenal over either CB, or at least from what I saw during his last season at Swansea. He started over Cahill for Chelsea, maybe Lindelof for United, either CB for Liverpool, either CB for City. The only team he wouldn't start for is Spurs.

Baines starts for any team that doesn't have Danny Rose in it, possibly even Mendy for City.

Jagielka is finished in regards to playing 38 matches per season, he's would walk into Liverpool's XI. And maybe play for City/Arsenal.

''and even funes mori when he finally comes back'' But even he would start for Liverpool, not sure about any other team.
