£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

We would be spending 80mil on two players who in a season will be 29 and 32. Meanwhile we have a couple of glaring problems in defence with Williams and Baines so we wont be getting top 4 anyway and will be 80mil down.

Doing 50mil on Sigurdsson when we have wasted 23-28mil on Bolasie and already have 10 attacking players is only going to be topped by spending 30mil on another ageing forward.

If we sold perhaps 5 or 6 attacking players then ok...it makes sense...otherwise why end up with 12 attackers ??? Its madness.

It's crazy finances...it's the type of buying that someone does when they cant be arsed building a team and using funds with more circumspection because they know they wont be around to clear up the mess if it all goes wrong.

He's got more than that

I doubt any other Playmaker has a better weaker foot in the league than him, or can score goals like him

But apparently he's only good at set pieces? Funny.

After watching those two videos, I feel like an idiot for ever being uncertain about Gylfi. Why on earth wouldn't we want somebody that can do those kind of things with a football??

9 of his 10 assists in 2014/15 were in open play. 5 of his 7 goals were in open play too.

If you've watched Sigurdsson at all prior to last season, you would know that he hasn't always been regarded as a set piece specialist. In fact it was considered one of his weaknesses until Llorente signed in 16/17.

Yawn.....no more of this please.
Think you've well and truly made your point.
Getting a tad boring now mate.
We all want him to sign (well most do), we dont need any more of your justification.

I dunno. If you gave your scouting team a remit to find the best playmakers in the world that would come to a Europa PL team, seemingly on the up, offering £150k a week wages, with a £45m budget, would you really be happy if Sigurdsson was the best they came up with? .

I'd sack them if they came back with Sigurdsson for £45m.

If he played like he did last season and was 22 years old then perhaps.

£45m buys you anyone outside of the elite in any league in the world.

Because they are edited highlight Youtube videos. Watch a Barkley one.

I'm using the logic of the post I'm replying to, not judging him myself.

The point was that Sigurdsson was a 'bridging player' ie not good enough to take us to the level we really desire, but good enough to improve us at the moment.

I think Sigurdsson is a game changer, capable of elevating Everton to the next level.

Lukaku is a goal scorer, he is bad at everything else a footballer should be good at. Lazy, movement, ariel ability, touch, passing.

Somewhat true but his movement, aerial ability and first touch is currently miles ahead of Rooney's.

I would prefer him in the box defend set pieces over Rooney, I would prefer him in linkup play over Rooney, I would prefer him receiving the ball & running down the flanks or towards the box than Rooney.

But other than that? He's a goal scorer like you said, and that's his only job. Everything else is just a bonus IMO.

Because apparently he's only good at taking set pieces and is worse in open play than Ross barkley and about 70 other Players in the league. Lol.

You wont see him score, assist, through ball, cross or pass the ball like Sigurdsson does in any of those clips.

In fact, you wont find any other Playmaker on the planet doing this like him.

Yawn.....no more of this please.

That would be implying that I care about your opinion.

As you do.

It's obvious RK wants the player
It's fairly obvious we are going to get him
Keep negotiations going and sign him
To walk away say no deal and then go back in on the last day is underhand and not the way proper clubs should do business

It's the way all clubs do business. We are not in some fairy land where we are the good guys and everyone else are bandits. If that were the case, we would be in the lower divisions through lack of a professional approach to our business.

We say to the Swans, we are not going any higher, but we'll talk again next month to see of you've softened your hard-line position re the fee. How is that underhand? How is that not being a 'proper club'?

It's hard-nosed business reality, that's what it is...

He's back in training with the Swansea squad tomorrow apparently, so should quieten down.
