After todays game away at Brum. Also, considering a few have said he wasn't happy with the owners handling of this saga, it looks like Clement backs the stance on the fee they want.

Paul Clement says Gylfi Sigurdsson's future at Swansea will be sorted soon

Swansea boss Paul Clement has promised a swift resolution to the Gylfi Sigurdsson saga.

Sigurdsson sat out Swansea's 2-0 pre-season victory at Birmingham on Saturday with the club saying it was due to the "current transfer speculation surrounding him".

It is thought Premier League rivals Everton have lodged a bid of around £40million for the Icelandic playmaker, with potential add-ons that could take a final package closer to £45m.

But Swansea value Sigurdsson at £50m and are holding out for that fee, with American owners Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien having said they will not be "bullied" into selling their prize asset.

"It was decided between me and the club, and him also, that it was the best decision for everybody involved that he wouldn't take part in games at this point," Clement said after the Birmingham win.

"It's not something we want and we will not be allowing to drag on right until the deadline. It is not going to the end of the window, no way.

"This is something we are going to get sorted as soon as possible.

"I have no doubt that he'll be ready for us if necessary because I've seen him working hard day in, day out.

"He'll be back training with the first team on Monday when we rejoin."

Sigurdsson withdrew from Swansea's pre-season tour of the United States earlier this month just hours before the squad departed for America.

He trained with the Under-23 players at the club's Fairwood base before rejoining Clement's squad upon their return home last Wednesday.

Although it it understood Sigurdsson wants to join Everton, Clement said the 27-year-old has not asked to leave Swansea.

"No, he hasn't said that (he wants to go), but he has ambitions and I understand those ambitions," Clement said.

"We rate him very highly and we want him to stay.

"But at the same time, if another club wants him they have to pay what the club feels is the right valuation for the player.

"We're either going to get the valuation we want which will enable us to reinvest and improve in the team, or he stays and we manage to keep a very good player."

In Sigurdsson's absence, Tammy Abraham and Leroy Fer scored second-half goals to give Swansea victory against Sk y Bet Championship side Birmingham.

Koemans quotes after the game 100% says we are getting a striker it's just whom....
And I'm not sure Max Kruse is better than what we have.

I'm sure once the Sigurdsson mess is settled in the next day or so, they'll go full bore on the search for a centre forward.

I just wonder if we also focus on selling McCarthy, Niasse, and possibly Ross. If those guys bring in 60M, I would think that allows us to go bigger on a striker and also snag a decent CB (Lemos?).

Definitely this, in my opinion.

..quotes from the player suggest Giroud will start the season at Arsenal and decide his future before the window closes. If it's Giroud it's likely to be late. I doubt Everton will put all their 'eggs' in one basket and wait that long.

Kruse is a goalscorer. I might be wrong, but I suspect RK wants a focal point CF like Giroud. If it's not the Frenchman I wonder if it'll be a similar 'lighthouse' CF.

Top Centre forwards don't come cheap. Of all the deals this is the one where there's no excuse. They've known for months Lukaku was off, so hopefully they have options here and get it sorted.

Get in Siggy.

We'll have so many options in the midfield this season. Time to bring in a striker and a CB.

I still think we need some more pace. Someone like Gray from Leicester would be good.

Think if we're going to play with a front three we need a big target man.

..who knows what's going on. It seems Koeman has spoken directly with Giroud (on the phone) which suggests he was the target. It also suggests Arsenal were content with the discussion happening. Giroud is not committed to leaving so I expect we're looking at other options of the same type (unless Giroud has indicated a move is a distinct possibility and we're content to wait).

It's Giroud's last chance of a WC. He ain't getting picked in the squad if he's behind Lacazette at club level. We really do not to sell the club to the player hugely, but we also need to make an offer Arsenal can't refuse. Perhaps 30m. But he's worth it. Big men are what beats packed defences.
