£40m Bid Made For Sigurdsson

I accept Siggi is likely to arrive and yes his stats are decent but my Spurs friends remind me he was no good for them so I conclude we should swerve, give Dowell game time and buy VVD with the dough.

Surprised at his stats over the past few seasons - you'd argue the players he's comparable to stats-wise are worth that fee so hopefully Koeman can get him to replicate the same numbers.

We don't play with wingers.

We play with wide forwards.

We have Mirallas, Lookman, Sandro and at a push DCL/Rooney all capable of playing that wide left role :) Bolasie when he's back too.

Sigurdsson will probably occupy a berth on one of the wide forward positions allowed to drift infield as well.

Hopefully that's not just at Ross' expense.

he plays as a number 10 though
spending this much on a player to play him out of position seems counterintuitive
if we want a wide forward then they're out there with experience in that position and probably cheaper as well
I'd rather try for insigne or Hernandez if that's what we're after

Leicester City are set to miss out on Swansea's star midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Iceland international is expected to join Premier League rivals Everton after pulling out of Swansea's pre-season tour of the USA because of the "uncertainty over his future".

Leicester had a record bid of £40million rejected for the 27-year-old a couple of weeks ago and had been considering whether to make a second offer after Swansea slapped a £50m price tag on their playmaker.

Everton have now made a similar bid to Leicester, which is reported to have been rejected, but the Toffees are said to be still confident of completing a deal with Sigurdsson understood to be keen to join Roland Koeman's side.

But Dembele could have flopped massively and then that's 50 million wasted. At least with Gylfi you pretty much know what you get as he is proven in the PL, hence why you pay the premium. It is what it is and if the board/manager at Everton think its a sound investment that's good enough for me
Sure any player can flop and I accept Gylfi's less likely to than Dembele. Gylfi's also more likely to become more prone to injury given his age.
If we assume both would do relatively well then Gylfi's value would still decrease given he's nearly 28 and Dembele's value would only increase, perhaps hugely, given his youth. We seem to be predominantly using player trading to build a new team and, if that's the case, we'll need to invest the revenues wisely if we are to emulate Spurs successfully. That's likely to take more time than the 2 years RK has left but RK is understandably only focusing on maximum short term impact.

he's not 28

and it's not a poor investment.

Like Bolasie, he improves the side in an area that needed improvement. Simple.
He's 28 on the 8th of September and there's no question he improves the side but if we are operating on a predominantly player trading model then the cost of a player, and his value as a financial investment, are important. If we were City then we could simply write off expensive mistakes but there's no evidence thus far that that's the kind of model we're operating under.

Roland you mean. Roland koeman. Does anyone bother proof reading stuff anymore?

People talking too much about the fee, we have had a few bargains recently but not every play we bring in is going to be a bargain money wise. To me all that matters is how well he plays, Gueye wasnt great because he was cheap, he was great because he is great.
Siggy can be great because he is great even if we spend too much on him, lets just do it quick and get him working with the squad
