TBF I'm only kicking a man (The Esk) when he's down.

going to be fascinating to see who Labour pick as their next leader. Going to speak volumes about their chances in 2020

It's clear that if Labour want to win they need to get the press onside and that's only going to happen if they adopt right wing policies.

What's the point in that? I'd rather they go down standing for what they believe in than putting than selling out what little of their beliefs they have left.

This is a great point. What is more important, winning with an agenda you don't believe in or being honest in what you are..........

Not sure about the press.

I think that the Unions are going to have to take a back seat in the election of the next leader though

I think if another Blair type approach is taken then they are in danger of losing the Unions. I fail to see how the Labour Party can exist without them.

Seems to me that every Government of whatever hue spend beyond their means.
My grandson is going to be paying for our national debt .... Jam today eh?

I said in a post last night, that without massive capital investment in the poor, it won't only be a financial burden our grandchildren will carry, it will be a huge human and social deficit which has far further reaching consequences.

The truth is that without raising living standards across the country, without raising productivity across the country, we will not be able to afford the health and social services the under-privileged will require in the years to come. Palpably, we can not fund those costs through debt, we can only fund it through increasing the country's income. That can only be achieved by investing in the people today, providing relevant education and opportunity across all areas of society not just the select areas. Hence austerity being such an appalling and wrong strategy.

Do you think the unions are prepare to do that? I really don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that they could split from the Labour Party and start again.

it's become clear that is impossible to win an election without the press in the current system, this idea some posters have that propaganda either doesn't exist or has no effect is pretty bizarre

The problem is that we are/have moved away from a manufacturing base to a service industry base that, frankly, doesn't make anything so is fundamentally useless.
Further, with the inexorable rise of technology & robotics, hands on people are becoming less necessary.
