2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

How many teams will have written us off in 22/23 and 23/24, and next thing is we’ve beaten Newcastle United Chelsea and Leicester out of nowhere, or beaten Arsenal and Brighton unexpectedly. We’ve sprung surprise results in the past, therefore other teams can.

In exactly the same way people saying ‘it’s done, we’re going down’ was overblown, it’s also too premature to say ‘we’re safe close the thread’. One bad weekend of results and it will start to feel tense again. A lot of football to play yet.

Am I right in thinking people's guestimates are 6 more points to be safe?
The bottom 4 are so bad that we could already be safe... if we get 6 more points that would mean that Wolves would need to win 4 and draw 2 to catch us, Leicester win 5 and draw 1 and Ipswich need to win 5 and draw 2, two of those things would have to happen for us to go down... I'm discounting Southampton as a threat.

If we're not still 9+ clear come April, I'll still be tetchy.

Feb
Liverpool H
Palace A
Man Utd H
Brentford A

March
Wolves A
West Ham H

April
Liverpool A
Arsenal H
Nottingham Forest A
Man City H
Chelsea A

I think Wolves have signed 3 defenders, likely go to a back 3 again and I think will be better than the bottom 3.

Ipswich and Southampton don't matter.

So I think it's about Leicester. If they pull 2 results out their arses (they have Brentford and West Ham to play this month), then we'll be twitching.

So while I'm confident we'll stay up, and don't think we'll go down. I'm still not "we're definitely safe", because.... we aren't.

I think we can by march if we can get the results, have two tough games coming up if can can between 2-4 points for liverpool and palace would be a good start

If we get 3 or 4 points from the next 2 then that's that. Even misery arse here wouldn't argue that.

Even factoring in any chance of a good run from Leicester. Teams run out of games.

I'd agree, 4 points from these 2 games and we are good, it would almost require those below us to match their points total from the first 24 games but only have 14 games to do it.. We'll be well clear by mid march.

Logically we should be safe.

I can see Wolves developing a gap to the other three. It then depends on whether Leicester get rid of Van N. You can see a Dyche type with a Vardy improving their results until the end of the season.

The problem that we have had for as long as I remember is that this team has a burst of good result followed by longer periods of bad results.

Our next four games are Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Manu and Brentford. Crystal Palace have a bit of form and Brentford are decent at home. Manu - no idea and nor have they. It is not inconceivable for us to play well and get very little out of those games, easiest looks Manu as we are at home.

If we were to get 4+ points out of those games and then nothing less than a draw with Wolves I think that we would be safe. We'd be on 31 points and probably needing a win out of the last 9 games. April looks tricky to say the least but after that we have Ipswich and Southampton at home. Even a pessimistic view gets us to 37 points.

I doubt that two out of the Leicester, Ipswich and Wolves will get to that points total.

Don't see Leicester doing anything under RVN, if they are sensible they will bin him off and get someone like Dyche to try and save them. It won't be easy though as they are woeful at the back.

Between 2-4.. so 3 points then?
Just think tough games really not sure on the derby both teams be up for it
